Re: Dana 24

I got a ride on Dana 24 a couple times out of Morro Bay, California (think lots of wind and waves). The owner (Ken Muther) was pretty old, but singlehanded in nasty weather with no difficulty. It was a good small boat for those conditions. Not sure about light air though.

Re: Dana 24

2-3 years back I moved a Dana on a short coastal hop.

I am 6’3” and 215-220 not heavy, but there is a lot of me. The cabin was very comfortable for her size. She is NOT a fast boat. My avg SOG was around 4-4.5 under power. That was running the engine conservatively.

It was a 2-day gig so I anchored out. I got hit with winds well over 25- rig howled but she felt super solid. I can see how a smaller person could take that boat transatlantic.

Summary- well built, sailed ok and roomy for her size. You could likely single-hand her.

Re: Dana 24

for a 75 year old this is a great idea. I always thought this was the perfect small boat .. especially when the going gets tough

Re: Dana 24

In terms of speed, on my transatlantic trip I was averaging 120 nautical miles a day. The maximum speed recorded on the instruments was 13 knots surfing down a large wave !
