Drop down swim platform is safer for dogs. Bavaria Vision 46 manual drop down with walkthrough on one side, heavy duty hinges. Very easy to launch dinghy.

Many newer Tartans have either a walkthrough or a drop down platform. My 4100 has a drop down and my labrador has no issue with it and the bonus is a pullout shower faucet/head that can be used to hose off the dog or for us to take a shower without using the inside shower. Of course, most boats of this arrangement will have a shower too.
