crazing

I'm looking for advice on bringing back my hatches and port lights. They suffer from a good amount of crazing. Are there solutions I may try. Thanks

Re: crazing

If you are talking about the lenses themselves, if they can be removed from the frames, just have new ones cut, and remount with Dow 795 ! You must clean off the old silicone adhesive 1st ! It is a p i a ! I got Dow Corning 1200 OS primer after talking to techie there ! I had an issue with the silicone not sticking well to the new lens ! Cleaned the edges with 1200 and it is almost as good of a bond as using the 795 ! The 1200 is pricey $$$ I paid $43 for a pint can ! Note our old lenses were from 79 and dull and crazed ! I tried head light cleaner compound, rubbing and polishing compound etc ! nothing worked !

Re: crazing

We've had good results from using automobile rubbing compound on the lenses to clear off the UV degradation. Not a permanent fix, but since the sun keeps shining, neither is replacing the lenses.

Re: crazing

Here's a thread from a few years back:

https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...r-46397-2.html

If they are crazed/have micro-cracks I don't think they can be fixed, and should probably be replaced. If they are crazed/fogged (like auto headlight lenses) you can polish out the damage. I've done headlight lenses by wet-sanding with 800 grit and working my way up to 5000 grit. Then, paint them using a clear spray paint suitable for plastic.

Re: crazing

polish won't remove cracks, but ok for surface micro-scratches
a very cracked panel can break under a brutal load, team member falling, pole falling, ...
