Well, everything. General impression. Sailing ability. Would you recommend the Corbin for cruising?

My father and I finished the boat from a hull and deck 30 years ago.
Most corbins were owner finished I think only 15 of the 200 were factory done.Take a good look at the boat.
The hull and deck are strong . Some of the early boats did get some spider cracks on deck only cosmetic.
As for sailing I am happy with it .It does suprise a few people. The only point of sail that it does like is close hauled in a short chop [she is a little fat in the bow] so you have to bear off a little.
The pilot house is ok for getting out of the weather but is to low for close navigating near other boats. The cockpit is fine for 2-3 but starts to get tight with 4-5 {the mk11 has a bigger one].down below
the boat has a lot of room for it's size and age.
Over all I think the boat would make a good boat for cruising as long
as you don't want a lot of people in the cockpit.
{ i love the flush deck]

check out the corbin39.com sight some good info there

You want to see a cool Corbin interior? This photo was lifted from Corbin's site. Bulkhead has been removed.

I haven't sailed one. They're supposed to be sturdy boats. Corbin actually bought the design from Dufour Yacht Design (though he had it changed to a flush deck configuration). As mentioned, almost all had owner finished interiors- some are quite... funky? Yes the cockpit is smallish but the flush deck makes for a lot of useable outdoor living space in port or at anchor.

We sailed across the Indian Ocean and up the Red Sea in the company of a Corbin 39, and I thought it was a great sailing yacht. I would have been happy to sail it around the world.

1987 Corbin Corbin 39 Aft Cockpit Pilothouse Sail Boat For Sale -

The above link is for a 39 Corbin owned by a friend. He and his wife are currently somewhere between Nassau and St. Thomas. We talked to them a couple weeks ago while they were in Bimini. They plan to cruise until sometime in April when they will haul out in St. Thomas and put the boat up for sale. They had the boat built to their specifications in 87-88 and have made lots of improvements, many updates just last year. I believe there is contact info in the add from last year when they first started thinking of selling. If you have trouble getting in touch with them, I'll be happy to coordinate something. His name is Cappy, wife is Bam.

Thanks for input all. I was looking at an unfinished Corbin in Victoria, B.C.. It's got a offer on it so all bets are on hold. Thanks for the information.

Does anyone know the where-abouts of Herb Hilgenberg's boat Southbound 2. After he left Bermuda, it sat out in front of my house in Ferry Reach for quite a while.
I went aboard it a few times, and secured loose rigging, after a blow.
