Wow that’s beautiful. What color/brand was that?

Re: Coolest paint on a sailboat?

This is my selection for my 19 foot cat when I gelcoated her last year. I just think that yellow is a very happy color. Now I just have to get the yellow vette to tow her with.😁😁😁

We painted ours 3 years ago as I was sick of white. Awlcraft 2000 Island Turquoise. Came out great. You can hardly guess she's 38 years old. Easy to spot in the anchorage too.

Re: Coolest paint on a sailboat?

This debate has come up on the forum before - studies done on cars in the sun show there is no difference in temperature inside a dark painted car vs a white one. To my knowledge, no one has done a similar study on boats. But if there was a huge difference people in northern climates would insist on dark hulls.

A dark hull can feel warmer on the outside, but any insulation at all will cancel that out inside. One boat designer told me that outside water temperature actually has a bigger effect on inside temps in a boat.

But if you want a cool color, you are pretty safe with a light blue or gray. I recall those absorb a pretty negligible amount of heat over pure white.

Except that's not true...(dozens of similar articles with a quick search)

I know on our boat, I can feel where the dark side stripes are from the inside just by the temperature.

Now if you boat is heavily insulated, it's less of an issue as is sides vs deck but it definitely has an impact.

Re: Coolest paint on a sailboat?

Came across this beauty at the dock in little Treguier on the Brittany coast last year. Rumor was that it was an early mini-Transat entry from long ago. The paint job was amazing trompe l'oeil artwork. The old hull was completely intact, smooth as any other, and all of the wrinkles, rust, and holes are painted on! Sweet-as. [IMG][/IMG]

This freshly painted boat caught my eye on the AICW. I spoke with the painter....Alexseal.....incidentally Alexseal in the last year or so has released an additive that yields excellent results Rolling, NO Tipping. See demo Boatworks Today on the web.

I think the white bottom provides important contrast...

A word of CAUTION: Isocyanate based paints require important personal protection. PS isocyanates in the atmosphere can exceed safe breating limits before you can smell them. You have to keep it off your skin too! They are very durable however.......

Sorry, Billy. Link doesn't work.

Can you attach the photo?

Thanks for the warning about the toxic chemical compounds.
