comments on Cheoy Lee Golden Wave 42 please.

Hi folks, looking at a 42 foot Cheoy Lee Golden Wave, '82 vintage. What's the good, bad and opinions.
Thanks!

I don't know anything about the model but our Cheoy Lee Offshore 38 is rediclously well built. The deck is a full inch of teak under fiberglass (po removed the teak deck), the hull is very heavy and we'll laid up. Nearly 40 and will outlive me! Ours sails very well but is a good 7,000 lbs lighter than the Golden wave and not as beamy. But we love the keel which is similar to the Golden Wave. Seems to handle well on all points of sail. Hth.

I've owned and cruised one many tens of thousands of miles over the past 28 years. Absolutely love the boat, and looking forward to another sailing season in Maine this year.

There are tons of posts on this boat. Just do a search. Also, the Cheoy Lee Owners Association has some useful information.

Which boat are you looking at?

Hello! There is one on the block in northern Washington. I have looked at it twice now and am looking for someone to share their experiences with one. You look like just the fellow I have been looking for. PM coming your way.

I think I know where the GW 42 lies that your are considering. If it is the one, then I am at the closest marina to that yard. I would be happy to talk to you about mine if you would like although I don't have as much experience with her as others do.

Mine sails like a dream. Points very high. They seem to have the usual issues with boats of that age and a lot depends on what the previous owners have done with her.

Saw a post by someone looking at a Cheoy Lee vs Endeavour 40 as a potential liveaboard but can't find him again. I can help!

Re: comments on Cheoy Lee Golden Wave 42 please.

Since the last couple of comments ended up on this thread, just make sure you know that the GW41 is a different beast than the GW42. Both were built by Cheoy Lee. The 42 was designed by Bob Perry and the 41 by a different designer so you have the differences that all designers bring to a boat. Cheoy Lee does have a well-deserved reputation for quality built boats, in most regards, with some of the "usual" steel issues. E.g. many GW42 owners have changed their chainplates, just as many, if not most, would have on other boats of the same age.
