Comanche - going for the Transatlantic record

Comanche is currently mid-atlantic looking good to break the Transatlantic record

(CC44, Factor and others. This is in the monohull section and we are talking the monohull record so don't get your knickers in a twist )

On their YB tracking site, they also display the position of the current holder Mari Cha 4... That name sounded familiar to me so I checked my AIS again, and I'm anchored near it's predecessor Mari Cha 3.

Saw it being made at the yard. Huge boat, real flat bottom. Probably the fastest mono hull yet built. Basically skims along the surface.

Last season I was lucky to see Comanche up close and personal racing the Rolex series off Porto Cervo, Sardinia. I was right on the start line aboard our Oyster 53 as Comanche took the start and roared past me less than ten meters away. It's truly amazing the level of control and speed those boats acheive. I simply maintained my slow forward speed and track, crossed my fingers, and they sped by at over twenty knots. WOW!

In making the crossing in just 5 days, 14 hours, and 21 minutes Comanche has knocked over 24 hours off the prized record held by Mari-Cha IV for the last 13 years (subject to ratification). She sailed the 2,880 nautical miles at an AVERAGE speed of 21.44 knots
