What a good deal for you. If you have a picture of that I wouldn't mind seeing, but if not its not the end of the world. I saved that tank to my amazon cart, that may end up being the ticket with restricted height.

You know those aren't cheap, but if I only buy one or two its not too bad assuming I get many years of service from them. I will get the measurements from the well and see what I have to work with. I have the fuel tank for the outboard on one side so only will have one side to work with.

That should be enough though. I will be reading up on the forum for propane versus alcohol stoves and see where that takes me too.

By the way, having the well hatch replaced. I see no need to the multiple slats of teak with the caulking in between. Just seems like more areas for failure and more leaks and maintenance. So we going to do a new one out of solid oak and then stain and seal it up.

Then that got me thinking about the companionway slider. I saw a link here from the guy that has hull # 50. He rebuilt his, came out beautiful and I see the utility in the multiple slats due to the curve or crown.

He mentioned he wishes he had simply redone his out of fiberglass. While its not the same classic look it sure would be less up keep over the years. Any thoughts guys?

Yeah at those prices a steel tank and a few cans of resutolium might be better lol

get the hatch looking great then refinish with 2 coats of epoxy . Then after that put 2 coats of high gloss spar varnish with uv inhibitor. A light sanding each year after and a fresh coat of varnish and your good for basically eternity. ( I would recommend helmsman urethane spar varnish.)

Anyone with a C29 or similar that has removed the big deadlights in the main cabin area and replaced with opening portlights? If so photos would be appreciated.

The wife had been asking for opening portlights in the main area and I thought it was unnecessary. But the more I think about it the more I like the idea. I already had acrylic lenses cut to replace and re-shape the deadlights. Getting rid of the larger radius on the ends and making all four corners the same radius which looks more clean to me and also matches the Beckson portlights we already installed in the head, hanging locker and v-birth.

I looked at Beckson's line but they don't appear to have anything as long as the Columbia 29's existing openings and I don't want to go smaller. I found the Lewmar long version which is about 27'' long. So two of those on each side might work.

If anyone else has other suggestions for some large rectangular portlights please let me know.

over all the gasket material was super hard to find to match the Columbia 29 factory gasket. We did find it, but then I thought it would be better to have a custom frame built that I can glass in. Then I can replace lenses myself down the road easily with some Sika Flex and a screwdriver.

By the time I priced all that out I figured out its cheaper to buy an existing opening portlight if you can find the right size. I may need to use some marine ply and glass it in depending upon the size of the portlight to make it fit but still a better option than custom frames I think.

Anyway, that's our last big project to keep things dry for the time being. Input appreciated.
