HELLO
I am currently in the market for my first boat and I am in need of some advice. I am looking for a trailer sailor no longer than 25 feet, which my family can take out on the weekends. In my searching I found a boat yard that had a Columbia 22 with a shoal keelfor sail (trailer and outboard included). The manager of the yard told me she was originally asking $2000 for the boat, but that was 10 years ago. She simply told me to make an offer.
The condition of the boat is questionable at best. It’s in need of lower paint, but I felt no soft spots in the hull. All the rigging was there but I am sure a majority of it will need to be replaced. The cabin is where a majority of the work will need to be done. Most of the wood seating and flooring needs to be replaced. I do carpentry work in my spare time so I have the tools and knowledge to refinish the damaged wood.
What I need to know is:
1. Would this be a good boat to purchase if the condition was perfect?
2. How much should I offer?
3. Is there anything in particular that I should be wary of regarding this boat?

Thanks for the help

Re: columbia 23

Doesn't look too bad. I would offer 1000 to see if they will take it. Even at 2000 as long as the motor works is not that bad. Go for it!!

I like it. I would consider where you plan to sail and if it will be easily launched at those ramps. That waterline is pretty far from the ground.
