Check Out this Sailboat in my Local Craigslist (no affiliations)
I want to share this with you'all.
I think this boat has some potential, someone could get into this boat cheap or even a barter/trade situation.
Any opinions?
I like the looks alot.

Re: Check Out this Sailboat in my Local Craigslist (no affiliations)
That boat loks like it could be a good project. Similar to a Union 36/Tayana 37 maybe. Building boats of different names in older molds was common in Taiwan. I guess it all depends on the build, but typically the early chinese builds made up with extra glass what they lacked in knowledge. another huge plus is the boat does not seem to have teak decks (?) If the Perkins in it can be salvaged... it could be a steal for what it is...but remember... it's a project. What's your boat experience?

cheechako,
NO, I'm not interested, i have my westsail. I posted it here to hopefully benefit someone else and to get some critical opinions as there weren't many of these made.
She could be a good deal for someone. A few years ago I would have ran to Key Largo looking to make a deal.

Re: Check Out this Sailboat in my Local Craigslist (no affiliations)
This was clipped from the article within the attached link. (It's a good read with supposid quotes from Bob Perry).
http://www.cruiser.co.za/hostsecret8.asp
"Mao Ta 36 is a variation on the same hull but built by a different yard. I know this boat well. I made a point to get acquainted with it when my name began to be connected with it. It's a very good boat and in every way very similar to most of my early double enders. It's a bastard child of mine and I will continue to feel like the father.
Bob"

Is it just me or does the fact that there are only three pics, all taken from shore with no internal shots or on boat shots and a description that sounds like it was written by someone with limited sailing knowledge, advertised on craigslist not raise any suspicions about a scam ?

I don't know if it's just you, but it doesn't raise suspicions of a scam in me. What it does raise suspicions of for me is that the boat is a complete piece of junk, and worth less than nothing. That is, the owner should be paying YOU to take it, rather than expecting you to pay him.

That might be foolish of him as the price for these boats is still high. You may not like them but many do.

It does seem to have more then a bit of a mold on deck and the sides. Perhaps its been through a named storm or two. Still for someone with oh $9000 and a lot of time and money it could be fun. I see lots O work though.

If you are into this kind of boats, and if you know how to get this boat to the condition you want, then I would not hesitate and have a closer look at it.

some people don't have capital or financing to get into a boat that would cost 50 60 70 or a hundred thousand. this opportunity could fit the right person.
I don't suspect it's a scam at all.
