I could be wrong but I have a feeling this boat washed up on a beach on Bimini and was salvaged by some Americans working there.

Interesting.
If I had a set of wheels and could get to key largo I'd have a look see to give ome info to report here on the forum.
No doubt 22k isn't exactly giving the boat away but it's possible she is worth every cent.

Update : my wife and I purchased the Mao Ta 36' which actually turns out to be a 42' loa the Perkins 4-108 is completely shot we sailed her down to Marathon and had her hauled out bottom in good shape replaced steering cable put in new jabsco head y - valve holding tank and macerator pump new diaphragm pump for galley and head water functions we are planning on pulling the Perkins out and replacing it with a Volvo MD - 6 A the question I have is will that engine be adiquate power for this 28,000 lb double ender?

MD6A? that's the little 10hp right? most of those were raw water cooled if I remember right... so an old one may not last long. Do you have one sitting around or something?. It's not enough for your boat. You need enough HP to punch through chop when trying to go into it... the boat you bought isn't exactly a witch to weather and having enough HP will be something you want to motor sail when necessary. (the boat in my avatar is similar and was underpowered... the one thing I really disliked about it 30hp) Why not rebuild the 4-108? Or rebuilt ones come up on Ebay quite often. Check out Foley Diesel also...
Foley's website says they have them in stock rebuilt.
There's one on Ebay in FLorida complete with 2500 hours I think It's about $3500 but may not sell for that as it's hard to verify the actual condition.

10 hp for that boat? No, not enough. The general rule of thumb is that you need a bare minimum of 1 hp for every 1,000 lbs of boat. More typical is somewhere around 1.5-2.0 hp for every 1,000 lbs. So for that boat I would call a 25 hp engine the absolute minimum. Twice that would be much better.
