Re: cheapest place to haulout in the med - turkey?

We had planned to haul out for four months over winter in Turkey this year but have just found out this country is no longer as cheap an option as a few years ago. We're also now looking for information about options in this region. Has anyone got any recommendations regarding good, affordable haul options anywhere in this end of the Med?

Cheers

i ve heard lots of people about turkey being expensive
about a month ago i was in a small yacht doing an engine repair and the owner was dissapointed not only for the haul out prices but also for the transit fees that gone 100% up plus the agent
if you like i can ask samos marina for an offer for 4 months or if you like more it will be cheaper for you

Self-service is typically cost-advantaged but depends on how much "yard" time you need-

A family that's been cruising through the Med for the last few years considers Tunisia to be the cheapest in the Med. Not sure where exactly though.

Thumbs up Re: cheapest place to haulout in the med - turkey?

Hi All,
Prices may have changed over the years but nothing is more expensive than the euro, Turkey and Marmaris still remains the cheapest for work and marina fees. It is also very safe for sailing and friendly.

Actually I've heard severaleople say Greece has got cheaper and everything in Turkey has zoomed in the last few years.

Re: cheapest place to haulout in the med - turkey?

Marina's in Turkey are becoming very expensive. However, there are still some boatyards that are reasonable. We're hauling this year at Bozburun. Its a fairly primitive yard with hydraulic skids rather than a travel lift. Cost is E1300 for six month on the hard for a 12 m boat. There are also some boat yards in Greece that are reasonable. Sousaki near the Corinth canal has a boat yard with travel lift for E140 per month. Forget finding decent mechanics there however. Turkey does have good tradesmen around the Marmaris/Bodrum area. The saniye in Marmaris is excellent for inox work and spare parts.

Remember that importing spares/parts into Turkey is prohibitely expensive, Greece is the better option for that.
