Cheapest Cost to Desigh/Build Sailboat for zombies

Totally new to sailing. Want to design and build own custom sailboat. Very tight budget. Aware there are cheaper ways, but want me OWN DESIGN. Are my estimates bonkers even for a brain dead zombie-lover like me?

To be built in haunted barn on cursed ground near a pet cemetery.

Mostly high lat sailing.
Naval Arch to generate minimal drawings to my design

Prices in thousands, words in English.

Resemble dufour 12000ct ketch with modded butt-area.

Boat: Alum or Fiberglass Hull, 45ft, monohull, ketch or schoony, beam 13.5.

Est. build time =3300 hours

05= Naval Arch
30 = Hull and deck = 30
18=Engine + Accessories =18
05=Electrical (gen, batts,solor,wiring, panel, the bla)
02=Water(maker, tanks, bla)
02=Heads and stuff
03=Interior wood/textiles (min)
03=Galley stuff
01=Heating crapoola
02=Trans to wawa from barn(10mi)
03=Masts, rigging,sails
04=Auto pilots, chart,all electronics
00=Everything else I left out

78,000$ = Stupid Total

Can this be true? Can it be done for 78 thousand smackerooos?????

No it can't. You're not even in the ball park. Try $800k+

Re: Cheapest Cost to Desigh/Build Sailboat for zombies

The two unrealistic ones I see are: hull and deck for 30--I see 30 each as a minimum, and don't forget structural bulkheads. Ballast, too, is a weighty question.

Second: Rigging, masts and sails for $3000? I spent more than that on the rig for my 31' cutter, and that was only by repurposing a light pole and building my own boom and bowsprit out of leftovers. If you're looking at two masts, well, not only is that a second mast to buy, but twice the rigging material.

You don't mention ground tackle, dinghies, steering gear, winches, windlass, nor even the tools necessary to build, nor yet the location (your yard? doable--I've done it, but if you need to rent space that's another expense)

Double or triple the time and triple or quadruple the price.

Before committing huge resources, build a dinghy first. Design it too if you like. Make it a sailing dinghy. Keep close account of your hours and costs, then do the math based on displacement, adding engine, electronics, plumbing etc. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for your input, sea peoples. Not drunk as I don't need alcohol or drugs to have a good time. Revising budget. Not against getting used stuff except for hull and engine. I might try to get hands zombified sailboats and cannibalize them for stuff to use on this one. The main goal is to see how cheaply person X can get their own design built and on the water. That would be the challenge or theme of the whole project. Make great online vids series for BlaBla Tube, I think. Ahh, it is great to be undead.

Well..... on the off chance your interest is for real, and on the better chance some non-zombie is genuinely interested here, I suppose, if it were me, I'd look into scaling up a Thunderbird in aluminum, though I have no idea how well that would work, or how much it would cost. It is just a (relatively) easy hull to build and has good performance, at least in the 26' version. There are quite a few aluminum boatbuilders (for jet boats, fishing boats and drift boats) in the PNW as you may know already. Where are you located?

So a famous designer once said some wise words to me I'll pass along.

It costs the same and takes the same amount of time to build a sh$tty boat as it does to build a good one. Might as well build a good one.

I'd strongly suggest not designing your own boat unless you're very familiar with materials, finite element analysis and overall statics and dynamics calculations. Just way too much to go wrong. Work with a good designer. Money spent here will more than pay itself off as mistakes you make in design can double the cost of the entire project as you redo them and experiment.

For a lot less money, you can buy a used boat. If you interview the sellers judiciously you'll find the person who is a completist, who manically and fanatically maintains the thing, and who has been making his boat ready for you his whole life. You'll probably know when you find him or her.

You want to sail to "high latitudes"? Start with sailing around where you live. For a couple of years (pretty please). Make friends with the old geezers at the boatyard. Some of them are full of it but you'll learn stuff that you'll need later.

That is great advice and very accurate.
