How do I tell if it's a Tashing model? Is there a time frame I can use?

I'm not sure, but a message to Bob Perry... he would know. I know when the 40 became the 41 it changed for sure. I'm guessing mid to late 90's. Or a call to Passport Yachts in Annapolis would find out.

Sorry i see that some do. I don't think that would be a good place to put a solar pannel setup. So then you are going to have to do some type of arch configuration?

Depending on length compared to an aft cockpit, yes you are taking one long deck amd making two short decks out of it due to the cockpit now being center. Choice for dinghy location seems to be on the forpeak, which I'm not a fan of. I don't want it in the way when going forward to work. Or over the back cabin, which will work not sure how big a dinghy you can accomodate there. Or in davits, which everything I read tells me is great while costal cruising but not apropriate for off shore passage. 40' aft cockpit should be able to put the dinghy upsidown on the coachroof out of the way.

OK so I'm biased.... however...

I don't think that stowing a dinghy between mast and after cockpit is really a 'goer' on many boats... observe what you are deailing with on your original choice of boat WAUQUIEZ CENTURION 47 en Noord-Holland | Voiliers d'occasion 52545 - iNautia

If done well ( ~~some~~ many aren't ) a centre cockpit gives you good separation between sleeping and living quarters and means you don't have to sleep in the focsle.

Size of dinghy you can fit on deck down aft is determined by beam of boat down there.

A saloon with 'tub chairs' and stuff such as I saw in some of the Moody 44 'for sale ' ads is as much use as tits on a bull offshore as you have no sea berths.

I have no experience with the newer generation of wind gens but bang for the buck solar is better than wind....
More detail of mine.... A bit of modification to my stanchions and I could double the number of panels ....and all are 'trimable'.

I do like how the westerly ocean is flat across the top and doesn't have s "bubble" in the middle. Love the interior. Don't care for the teak decks. Seems like a lot of boat for the money

OceanMaster and Ocean 49 ? Nice boats...

The cabin top aft of the cockpit isn't all that it seems though.... the mainsheet traveler runs right across the middle of it.....

They built about the same number of those Oceans as they did Sealords...about 40 but over a longer period. Nothing wrong with the quality of Westerlys ... I was speaking to their marketing man just before they went under for the very last time (mid 90's?). He said that it was impossible to sell a new boat of 35 feet or less as the market was saturated and that due to the high UKP v the Euro at the time they had only managed to sell one of their larger yachts into continental Europe in the previous 12 months.

As I said those 49 footers are nice but I find boats like that 'fussy' down below ( bin aboard two ) ... everyone to their own.

Hmmmmmm.

So...a crew of two and half the boat is taken up with another double cabin frd and a separate 2 bunk cabin that leaves you with a pisfarty little saloon table in a 'half beam' saloon.

I can get 6 around my saloon table in comfort and it folds down to open up the saloon when just sitting around... ok its a bit utilitarian but it works.

Sorry about the mess .... boys at lunch.....

I believe the fitout varies on the Ocean... The first one was built for a 'man of means' who came back a year later to get a new one with a different layout... and came back a year after that.... and.....

Oceanlords vary quite a bit in their fitout as well.....
