Re: CDI flexible furler

I think "junk" is a little harsh! Of course,my opinion may be biased since I just installed a CDI on my 26' boat.
I think for what they are, which is specifically a cruising, not racing, furler, CDI is pretty good. They are easy to install, have fewer failure points than many other furlers (Halyard wrap is impossible, for instance, due to their internal halyard), and fairly inexpensive (I got mine on sale for just over $700.)

CDI is fine. Particularly for a Catalina under 30'. It's easy to spend more money on a harken or similar, but you shouldn't really need to worry about it unless yours is damaged.

Re: CDI flexible furler

Your 27 with tall rig most likely has the same model CDI furler as my 30 fter with fractional rig. That is model FF 6.
Few years ago when looking to replace my furler, our very well respected rigger was good with installing my CDI furler. He asked if I race, (I do not) and suggested we install a new headstay. Have had no issues with furler and sail in winter with brisk winds.
Rigger very honest guy and never upsold customers whether a small budget boat or big serious racer.
