Catalina to BVI?

How many of you out there have/would take a Catalina 40 from Florida to the BVI?

Saw a Catalina 47 in Turtle Cove in the Turks and Caicos a few weeks ago. They were going from FL to BVI. No problems.

It's much more people dependent than boat dependent. What is your experience? What route are you thinking at what time of year? With what crew? Is this your first " offshore" experience? The answers to these questions will be a better predictor to your success than the boat.

There was a sub 35' Catalina down here that was sailed down last season no problems.

I'd do it in the blink of an eye in my Catalina 36 MKII - once I'm retired.

The trick, no matter what boat, is to have the time to move when the weather's right and hang out when it's not. You will hear it said over and over on this forum and others - "You can't have a schedule". Follow this and you can take just about any boat thru the Caribbean.

If you can't follow this, then it may be best to charter a boat in the BVI.
