Can Someone Identify What This is For?

I recently bought a Bristol 29.9.

This bracket is attached to the side of the navigation / map desk. What is its purpose? What is it made to hold?

Thanks in Advance,

Paul

It looks like the bracket that holds a VHF handheld mic.

I guess it could be. But it seems a little large for that, but I just don’t know.

Here is another pic to give some size perspective.

Re: Can Someone Identify What This is For?

It is also relatively heavy built. It seems like it could hold some weight above that of a mic.

Is there an identical "thing" opposite on a bulkhead? Might be an attachment point for a bar holding up a seabunk.

No. The galley cabinet drawers are opposite.

It’s a mystery . . .

My guess it was used as a gimbaled cup holder and the special made cup with the male feature is no longer around.

Hmmmm.

Some sort of gimble mount seems like a reasonable idea. Thanks.

I’ll vote as a gimbal mount for a single burner stove.

Maybe a mount for a ships bell.

Yup...we have a winner! Better call the former owner of the boat and ask for it.

Re: Can Someone Identify What This is For?

Really guys? Since it is near the nav desk I would say it is to hold a compass.

Really. Even the screws in Sailmonkey's picture match the OP's.

Re: Can Someone Identify What This is For?

A compass is gimbaled internally. No need for a bracket like this.
