I bought a new heat exchanger with the better metal combo from a Washington State company with an exceptional price. I can get that info to you if you want to replace it.

I do have the 6' draft and have had no problem with it so far, I sailing out of vancouver though, and havent even had anything close. I just replaced all of the through hulls, I had the boat out of the water and just took the old through hulls in when I got the old ones. Western has all of the flush ones if you are in the vancouver area.
I need to do the headliner and I was wondering how it is done on some of the other ones.

I completely redid the Headliner and sides, as well as the Quarter Berth. It is a challenge but well worth it. I am extremely happy with the results. I used a good upholsterer and I assisted.

The original headliner uses snap-in plastic strips that, of course, are no longer going to be available. Do you ever make it down to SoCal? Showing is better. PM me and I can provide pics - but it is hard to explain.

How are everyone's boats doing. I have yet to get the headliner in, now that I can sail it my productivity has gone way down. Just pulled out for some rudder repairs, actually wound up completely replacing it, as prices to fix the post were huge. Costs 2500 at foss foam, and takes a week to make.

For sure! I love the engine compartment, I would love to see the boat in person. You should think about coming north for your shakedown cruise, there will be beer waiting for you.

So where is "North"... and what year is your Cal 35?

False creek, vancouver. Not 100% sure what year, looks pretty simmilar to yours, I have forward dorade vents though. I had the same incident as you did with the engine harness. Gave me a bit of a start with all of the smoke.

I think we can figure that out with your HIN Number. It should be on your paperwork and on the transom back side of the boat. Mine is: CABH0085M84F - - Year: 1984 Hull#: 85

Unfortunately the HIN is nowhere to be found, transom has been sanded and it is nowhere in the paperwork. I bought the boat from a marina after it was abandoned by the previous owners. I have had her for just about three years now. I have basically re done everything, though not to the same caliber as you. When I got the boat it has been stripped of everything, and I mean everything. The toe rails were the worst to re bed and get back on. My next project is getting the new headliner in.

I raced on Lake Huron in the late 70s on a CAL 40. It was a well made and fast boat. If the 35 is a mini-me it should be a nice boat. Be sure to do a survey out of water. You can see the obvious but wet cores, blisters are the big items on a lot of boats of that vintage and polyester resin.

Fortunately mine has an uncored hull. The topside is though, my spring project will be to redo the cockpit sole, it's fairly springy around where the rudder access hole is.

Yes, the Cal 40 is a famous boat - and broke many records...

The Cal 35 is a smaller version of the Cal 39...
