Buying Our First Boat :)

Hello,

Well, we made an offer, it has been accepted, and the survey is next week!! We are very excited and can't wait to get her in the water. It is an Island Packet 27. She is in great shape and we are having a few things done to her before we put her in the water this Spring. We are keeping her in Maine for the summer!! Thanks for listening.

No Sailmonkey...we haven't tried it yet. PO said they love it but we will see. We put away enough $ so if we don't like it, we will have the option to change it and won't have to "live with it".

Thanks everyone. I am much more excited about this purchase then when we bought our house

Been said a millions times but...."The two best days in a boat owner's life are the day they buy it and the day they sell it..."

Congrats on your new boat, I still love mine! Though sometimes my boat more resembles a large boat shaped hole in the water that I like to throw money into... 8P

Don't listen to a word!
I've become convinced that the people who originally coined that phrase either;
a) Kept their boat on a trailer next to their house, used it a few times initially then let it rot;
b) Never gave the boat the attention and time it demanded;
c) Bought an absolute wreck, or;
d) All of the above.

Re: Buying Our First Boat :)

Hello,
We aren't listening We can't wait to get out on the water. We already found a gorgeous marina in Maine to keep her and we understand that we are going to put every extra penny we have into her to keep her in good shape. We have been waiting a three years to buy a boat and figure the time is right now(even though we have two kids in college)

And our survey is tomorrow!!!!

I will let you all know how it goes. Looking forward to it as I have never done before and I hope to learn a bit. It is kinda nice that the surveryor happens to have the exact same boat. Hopefully that will be helpful!!

Re: Buying Our First Boat :)

Great! a word of caution: Dont simply trust the surveyor to be excellent and focused on everything. I would discuss it with him and tell him your biggest concerns are the big things; engine, hull, deck, rigging, sails, damage, tanks etc. Typically they will spend 3-4 hours and the wrong surveyor will sometimes get too fucused on listing flares, fire extinguishers, double clamps etc. It's a lot easier to do than looking closely at the big stuff, and fills up a report well. Have a discussion and tell him what's really important to you...... JMHO

Re: Buying Our First Boat :)

Was just kidding... I wouldn't sell my boat until the day I'm ready to buy a bigger one!

This month is my project month where I fix anything that needs fixing and make the few changes I've thought up over the last year on the water... New cabinets, engine tune-up, replace filters, new lifelines, etc... There's always something I think I need for it but I wouldn't give it up for nuthin!

Re: Buying Our First Boat :)

Where in Miane are you going to store the boat? And how far away do you live. We have a place in Alfred, ME, south of Portland and live in Grenada with our boat. Have fun. Enjoy the lobster!
