Looking to buy a sailboat in the 38 to 45 foot range for coastal liveaboard cruising, with some Bahamas cruising in the future, would love a cat but probably out of our price range. Have my eye on a few boats on Yacht World, but would like a buyers broker to help in the search.
Hi
We are using James Fachtmann, 954-732-5825 to buy a boat in Tampa right now. Just completed the offer process, now moving through the survey and sea trial phase. Will let you know how it goes once everything is done. He's been pretty good, pushed us away from his own listings once he understood what we are planning instead of pushing his own listing.
We used Linda Reynolds as a buyers broker when we bought our last boat. She's based out of St. Augustine. She is listed as a mobile broker for Massey Yacht Sales. You can find her contact info on their web site. Very satisfied customer. She was very helpful. No association with her or Massey other than as a customer.
Second Linda Reynolds at Massey. She and her (licensed captain) husband lived aboard for at least 10 years in their Island Packet, cruising from Maine thru the Bahamas. She is has been a broker for many years, is well connected in the industry and knows her stuff. She really cares about her clients and their sailing dreams.
Gary Monell at Whiteaker Yachts. We sold our motor yacht with him and then bought our latest sailboat through him too, not one of their listings but from another broker in Fort Lauderdale. Gary is an exceptionally hard worker and knowledgeable to boot.

Re: Buyers Broker
Wiley Sharp from Dennison Yacht Sales was the broker on our friend's recent catamaranpurchase. In my opinion he went above and beyond what would be expected of a broker. He flew down to Tortola for the pre-purchase survey and was available to answer the 100 or so questions that we had of him. I would definitely recommend him to someone looking to purchase a new boat. He can be reached at wiley@denisonyachtsales.com or 561-613-8985.
Buyers broker can be helpful but realize that both buyers and sellers brokers are motivated to close a deal and both may be in conflict with your best interests.
