Re: Broker and owner withhold information.

All I am asking for is some ID on the boat. He could just blur the owners name.
Is ID too much to ask about a boat you consider buying?

This part of your comment seems to have little relation to the facts about the case and what I am blaming the broker.
It is not only about me, but mainly other people who are deliberately lied to about the state of this boat and the brokers knowledge about it.
Simple as that. But you think this is acceptable for a broker to do so?

Yes, it is too much to ask. It is trivial to look up the owner of any USCG documented vessel on line, and hence allow you to work around the broker. By now he has probably worked out that you are not going to buy this turkey so why should he even talk to you? To him you are a waste of his time, even if he doesn't know it yet.

I think most of us dislike some of the behavior of some salesmen, whether for boats, cars, you name it. But you are not going to change the world even if you spent the rest of your life trying to identify sleazy salesmen. And you will be wasting your life. Truly the best revenge is living well. Now go find yourself another boat.

I have given up this project. But I am still very unhappy with the broker and I think it is my obligation to not let that just pass, because I gave up the project.
What he is doing is fraud, if not legally then morally.
Since last time i posted here, he is now refusing to send me a copy of the registration of the boat or any identification number.
Also I spoke to another person wha had asked for additional info about the damages, and their answer was, that there was no additional information available.
This is obviously and upright lie.
You seem to have a beef with the broker...if you can't asess the damage of the wreck u are interested in, get a surveyor or shipwright to have a look at it. Easy.
Brokers do mainly the paperwork, they are salesman ...
It is what it is...Just let it ride...maybe you need to relax a little?

Re: Broker and owner withhold information.

Flybird, I have said nothing to suggest I think the broker was correct about anything--except his refusal to give you a copy of the registration. That's none of your business until you've made an offer and had it accepted, regardless of who and what the broker may be.

I only remarked that under US laws, and the laws of most venues, you've got nothing that you can do to "punish" the broker, because you've suffered no actual monetary losses, and you've got no proof of anything he might have said. So there's no prosecutable crime, and no evidence of any crime.

Fifty years ago, you could go to a local dockside dive bar, or a private "social club", and pay a couple of goons a hundred bucks to beat the broker within an inch of his life, and cut his lying tongue out. (That's gonna cost a bit extra.) But these days, that's considered socially unacceptable, and good help would cost you five or ten grand, minimum, not just fifty bucks.

And of course doing that yourself, again politically unacceptable, violation of forum rules, exposes yourself to all sorts of risks, unless you're from a rare background. Generally not something to consider.

So there's nothing you can do about it, from what you've said. But feel free to contact the authorities in your location and his, and see what they say. Perhaps they'll ask you to set up a sting and wear a wire. More likely they'll say "Nothing we can do about that."

Re: Broker and owner withhold information.

It's only a boat, and a very busted one at that.

Disregard the broker and the transaction opportunity.

It's not worth the time or emotional energy to deal with the issue.

Turn the page, forget about it, move on and enjoy life.

Happy sailing.

I saw that boat around when I worked down there and wouldn’t recommend it even before the hurricane.
