Broker

Hi Everyone

I'm getting close to buying my sailboat and I'd like to get a buyer broker to help me with the purchase. I understand they operate much like a buyer broker in a real estate sale. I'd like someone who works out of the Northern Neck area of the Chesapeake Bay as I'd like to get recommendations from him/her about service providers in my area. So any recommendations and advice on buying a sailboat would be appreciated. All I know at this point is I will be getting a survey.

Thanks

Re: Broker

If you have already been interacting with the listing broker, he/she will likely not be willing to do a commission split with another broker that you bring on just for the purchasing process. You may end up in a position where you will have to compensate your buyer's broker out of your own pocket as a consultant.
I have worked with Mike Johnson of Eastport Yacht Sales in Annapolis before and found him to be capable, professional and quite likeable. I would gladly work with him again if the opportunity ever arose. I also worked with Forbes Horton in Annapolis and found him to be the exact opposite. Wouldn't give him the time of day, and damn sure wouldn't hire him for anything. To call him a self-righteous ******* would be an insult to self-righteous ******** everywhere. I have also worked with Richard Kahn of Annapolis Sailyard. A great guy, but not sure he is doing brokerage work anymore due to his age.

Re: Broker

Thank you for the recommendations. I haven't contacted any listing brokers yet for the concern you raised. I was hoping to get a broker closer to the Reedville area out of concern that an Annapolis broker wouldn't be as familiar with service providers in my part of the Chesapeake. Some one in Deltaville for instance. Should have said that is my first message.

Thanks again for the info you provided.
