Lightbulb Brewer 44 vs Pearson 422

Going to pull the trigger on one of these two from our short list, and it's a tough choice. The mid 80s Pearson will cost around $95,000 and the late 80s Brewer around $165,000. They are similarly well equipped and maintained. Layout and storage on both good, both with huge aft cabin. Biggest difference is 27000 lbs displ for the Brewer vs 22000 for the Pearson, all ballast. Like heavier for cruising the Caribbean, but probably slower as a trade off. Spouse likes the Brewer, just not sure it's worth 75% more. Anyone with knowledge of these boats, or helpful advice (other than letting spouse have what she wants, as usual)?

I would prefer the Brewer, and I bet you can find one for less: like this one:

Well, I bought a 422. The Brewer was on my wish list but decided the Pearson was a lot more bang for the buck.

If price is no object pick the one you like. Overall I'm very happy with the 422 but a few likes and dislikes:

1. Very limited on deck storage. No cockpit lockers.
2. Overall like the layout.
3. V-drive makes access to the stuffing box nuts a stretch.
4. Refer limited insulation. For an efficient system probably need a complete rebuild.
5. Solid hull and deck.
6. Bowsprit and anchor windlass work well. All chain rode piles in the shallow chain locker but an easy mod to deepen the locker.

Lots more if you want to talk about it send me a PM.
