Bowman vs hallberg rassy

I did read a lot about these boats.
Looking for a seaworthy boat for long distance and a small crew.
would like the opinion about a hallberg rassy 39/36 vs bowman 40.
Like the Rival 41 as well but the interior of the bowman and especially the hallberg rassy is better.

Did sail a bowman and a hallberg rassy but not the exact model mention above.

Re: Bowman vs hallberg rassy

I do favor HR 39 as it is a Frers design which means better performance. The HR 39 also have a much bigger engine room. It is really a deal breaker on a Blue Water boat for me.

I do prefer the layout of the HR 39 compared to the Bowman. Bowmans galley is bigger but I think the HR galley is a better galley offshore.

An HR will also be easier to sell just by the fact that it is a yard with a word reputation. More than 10000 boats delivered.

Nothing can go wrong if you choose between a HR and Bowman. I think your final decision should be based on your gut feeling.

Re: Bowman vs hallberg rassy

Both excellent boats, although I've only chartered them rather than owned. Rivals are more "old school", and I prefer the layout of the HRs as being just a little more modern. Guess it depends on how far back you're going though. There's a reason HRs are still made and still successful, and Rivals disappeared the way of many of the older boatbuilders.

At the right price, though, I'd go with the Rival... they tend to be overpriced in the UK as they are better known, but cheaper in other countries. HRs aren't cheap anywhere.
