Re: Bow thruster wiring... a lot going on here — J 54 DS

Looks like a professional did a perfect job. So clean and new.
It works so I would not even think of any changes.

Never touch a runnin system... OR: are you looking for troubles?

Re: Bow thruster wiring... a lot going on here — J 54 DS

The cristecs are
Input: 12v
Output: 24v @ 6a

Seems both of those are hooked up one to each series set. And the input for that and the Orion all pull off of a 12v coming from somewhere aft bus but located to port of the cristec unit.

So now the only question here would be if the two cristec converter chargers and the Orion are redundant?

I’m thinking so and can pull the cristecs and leave the Orion.

Will test everything first tho as I’m only getting 11.7 from aft but there seems to be some corrosion at a bus in the forward locker.

Also to the last post, everything works but nothing charges.

Thanks

It is very hard to determine your system by just looking at snapshots what with the jumble of wires and components.

Yep this is the way to do. By then you are able to check your suggestions by measuring it out.

Where would the 12v source be connected aft? Engine start battery? House bank? Control bank for 24v winches?

I have not been able to get 12v to the bow for the converter/chargers. Engine and hourse are above 13.5 with engine on

There will be a degree of voltage drop from the power source which likely is from your alternator as "generally" boats are set up to have their engine running when a bow thruster or a windlass is operated so as to mitigate against voltage drop from drawing power from just the battery bank. So as to minimize the voltage drop one needs to have properly sized the cabling TO and FROM your forward located 12 V DC to 24 V DC converter(s). The length for determining the proper cabling is the round trip length from the positive terminal of the source to the load and back to its negative terminal.

Re: Bow thruster wiring... a lot going on here — J 54 DS

So that was a burnt fuse.

I am now getting 12v from the house bank, tapped into the selector switch at the bow to power the dc to dc chargers. When I turned on the house bank after replacing the fuses the two came on and started sucking 40a from the house bank.

But even if my house batteries are not being charged, they are still powering the dc converter chargers in the bow. So there doesn’t seem to be a combiner switch in place to only power the forward dc to dc converters when the voltage from the batteries is above 13 (or whatever the combiner is set at).

I feel like Jeanneau would not make this a factory set up as your house batteries could quickly be depleted with bow thrusters or maybe if everything is fully charged it won’t matter?

Why would this make sense as a setup?

See my post #12

Otherwise, until then, IMO you're just spinning your wheels.

Worst thing you can do is "just get things working" and move on, without a thorough understanding of your overall System's implementation details.
