Re: Boats with Shallow Draft for Florida, Bahamas, Chesapeake
ODay 31
Steady's Notes
1. This is the first boat of this model I have posted in this thread. I am doing so because it appears to be in very good condition and fits the needs of many people who are looking for a bay and coastal cruising boat that is Asking Price Less than $30K. I see a lot of people join CF looking for some small, inexpensive boat for live aboard. While this boat would not be my choice for a circumnavigation or crossing oceans, it does look like it would be comfortable for marina living on a small boat.
2. I like the swim step stern.
3. This boat looks like a good match for bay sailing and some coastal cruising. Notice that it has a relatively small, low HP Diesel Engine and small tankage for water and fuel.

Re: Boats with Shallow Draft for Florida, Bahamas, Chesapeake
O'Day 37 CC
Steady's Notes
1. I often see new members on CF asking about a boat that has an aft cabin double berth (for privacy) and at relatively low cost.
2. This boat does have an aft cabin with a double athwartship berth and a private head with shower (hose, not stall).
3. This boat appears to be in very good condition for its age and price point and when compared to others of this age and model I have seen. That is why I am sharing this one here on CF, to illustrate a good example of this model.
4. I got a chuckle when reading the ad for this boat, as the broker wrote "low engine hours" as a key feature of the boat. It has 3,263 hours according to the details on the boat.
5. The details for this boat lists 10 opening ports with 3 hatches. I like opening ports for ventilation.
6. The boat lists with a wind generator, GPS, some electronics, refrigeration, etc. See the details.
7. The boat has nice engine access via a removable panel in the aft cabin.

Re: Boats with Shallow Draft for Florida, Bahamas, Chesapeake
Sandpiper Sharpie 32
_________________________
Steady's Notes
1. This is a boat with a two Free Standing Masts. The masts rotate, which furls the sails.
2. The hull is very shallow draft "Sharpie" design with minimum draft of 2' and one of the photos shows it being launched from a trailer. While this boat design may not appeal to everyone, and it is not intended for offshore passages, it is designed for local conditions that dictate a shallow draft boat. Sharpies can be found in Long Island Sound and the Chesapeake, where a shallow draft boat allows access or use from some shore properties where shoaling or shallow water exists. This would also be useful in the Florida Panhandle, Houston (Galveston Bay), Biscayne Bay in Miami, or some lakes or possibly the Gulf side of the Florida Keys. I used to live on a salt marsh on Hilton Head Island, and this boat could have been launched from my home there. It is designed for places where shallow water is common. The fact this boat can be trailered (and apparently easily launched, since it does not have a keel) makes it transportable to many locations.
3. This boat appears to be in very nice condition. I like the use of wood in the interior. It has a Diesel engine.
4. I find boats like this interesting from a design aspect. The goal was to create boat that can operate in very shallow waters. The use of Free Standing Masts is also something I find interesting. This particular boat has ROTATING masts, for furling the sails.
5. This boat features a nice large cockpit, a private marine head, and a galley comparable to most other 32 foot boats with a two burner stove, sink, and icebox. There are more photos of these on the ad, via the link below.

Re: Boats with Shallow Draft for Florida, Bahamas, Chesapeake
S2 11.0 (36 ft) Aft Cockpit
__________________
Steady's Notes
1. I have posted another boat of this model before. There were some minor differences. I like the interior layout and finish for this type of boat and size and price point.
2. I am posting this one because I want to include the list of things (Updates and Improvements) that the ad says have been done to the boat (refit) as it may help others see how many small items may need to be fixed or repaired on ANY boat they purchase that is used, especially if the boat is more than 10 years old. That list of items may help a buyer look at this boat and at others too, that may need similar maintenance.
3. There are two versions and some variations on engine types. A = Aft Cabin. (The S2 11.0 C is a center cockpit version.)
Shoal draft version: 4.67'/1.42m.
Delivered with Universal, Volvo, or Yanmar engines.
4. This boat layout has a Quarter Berth and Navigation Station (you sit on the quarter berth while at the Nav table).
5. I like the layout for the galley. Look for more images online to see the layout (as the ad only has one photo that does not show the sink location).

Re: Boats with Shallow Draft for Florida, Bahamas, Chesapeake
Moody 34CC
Steady's Notes
1. The Moody 34CC has a nice interior and layout for its size. I like it. The design of a 34 foot center cockpit boat requires some careful use of scale and features to fit in an aft cabin into a boat that is under 35 feet LOA.
2. Nice use of wood in the interior. The interior looks nicer than some Center Cockpit boats I have seen from US brands that are this size.
3. Note that this boat has a walkthrough passage to the aft cabin with double berth.
4. Boat has a single head, located near the ladder from the Center Cockpit.
5. This ad does not have the best photos I have seen for this model of boat. You could get a better idea of this model's use of space and finnish if you look at sister boats online. The photos of this particular boat are OK, and the boat appears to be in good, clean condition, but the photos don't show the boat features as well as others I have seen.
6. The boat is built in the UK and comes with a Lloyd's Certificate. It also comes with a Thornycroft Diesel engine.

Re: Boats with Shallow Draft for Florida, Bahamas, Chesapeake
Creekmore 46 (LOA 52) Cutter
Steady's Notes
This boat recently caught my eye. I like what I see in it. There are numerous things I would add to a boat or modify if I found another used boat that did not have these features or gear. In my opinion, this is a "Lot of boat at a very good price." One of the things I look for in any boat is the condition of the boat. I rarely look at "project" boats, and avoid posting them on CF. However, in THIS boat's case, I make an exception because I think this boat could represent an outstanding opportunity for a family looking for a bigger boat that has new or almost new systems (engine, interior, etc.). Looking over the boat these things caught my interest (I like them):
1. This type of boat was apparently sold as an "unfinished hull" so a buyer could finish the boats. I looked at a couple of these, and this is by far the best finished interior and deck that I have seen. The owner of this boat obviously spent a lot of money on putting this one together. I like the relatively shallow draft (5' 6") and that the 60 foot mast would allow travel up the ICW. The model is listed as a Creekmore 46, but with the bowsprit the LOA is 52'
2. I like the deck finish (Treadmaster) and deck hardware (multiple Dorades, protective bars, good hatches, arch, hard windscreen, etc.). I like the hardware too: air conditioning, electric windlass, refrigerator, deep freeze, etc.
3. I like the interior. The wood furniture (cabinetry) looks like it is new and I like the finish and design use in the cabins.
4. I like that it has an arch with two wind generators. I would add solar.
5. I like that the Yanmar engine is of good size HP and is almost unused (very low hours). 82 original hours with twin Racors.
6. The ad says the owner has spent $500K on the boat and that it is almost finished, with a need to finish the cabin sole (no big problem for me) and it needs mattresses and settee cushions (something I would replace in any used boat). And some minor finish work in the interior, something I would not mind doing. Of course if that much work has been done, there should be good records and receipts for you to see. In any case, a good professional yacht survey should be able to determine what needs to be done.
7. The deck has 6 close able Dorades with SS protection bars, 17 SS opening port windows, 3 overhead hatches. This should provide excellent ventilation.
8. All the hand rails are stainless steel so there is no exterior wood to maintain.
9. 2 heads with showers, 2 private staterooms PLUS two Pilot Berths in the Saloon. This would make this a good boat or a family that has two parents and four children.
10. NOTE! This boat has been listed for sale since June 2016 at this same asking price ($119K). Here is the other ad I found for this same boat.

Re: Boats with Shallow Draft for Florida, Bahamas, Chesapeake
Tartan 37
______________
Steady's Notes
1. The Tartan 37 is one of my favorite boats for this size and class. I like many things about it.
2. This boat model is one I may post a few times in this thread as I come across examples worth noting.
3. This particular boat (linked below) has been reduced in price. I found it originally listed with an Asking Price of $45,000 on the Tartan owners' site.
Tartan 37 Sales Floor
It is now listed for just $27,500.
4. While this boat's ad photos show some stains on the settee cushions and I noticed the ad said some of the canvas needs replacement (Bimini, sail cover, dodger), those are things I would expect to replace or repair on most boats if the canvas is older.
5. There is a very good detailed review of this boat model found at Practical Sailor. https://www.practical-sailor.com/iss...7_11600-1.html
6. This is a Keel/Centerboard design with variable draft. With the board up, it is shallow draft of 4.17 feet.
7. Some of the photos shown below may be from sister boats.
