Boats Similar to Puffin 42?

The Puffin website has in bold on multiple pages, “over 25 years often copied, never beaten.” I’ll be damned if I can find anything remotely like a copy.

The Puffin 42 fits the bill for me on everything I’d want in a boat, although it’s a bit large for me. I’d rather have something in the 36’ range. But I like the aluminum construction, pilothouse, shallow draft and center board, the smaller portholes and overall organization of the boat. I also like the aesthetics (I’m a sucker for a bowsprit and a plumb bow).

With all that in mind, is there anything else that remotely fits that bill, but maybe not so much the price?

Re: Boats Similar to Puffin 42?

This one https://www.yachtworld.com/boats-for...ffin/model-42/ has a steel hull. The layout is not convenient in the drawing you show, which matches the boat for sale in Oxnard CA. The galley is a long way from the upper salon dining table. You have to carry everything forward around what looks like a centerboard trunk/engine box and then up steps. Then it all has to go back after the meal. The cook cannot hand anything up - it is too far to reach. According to the builder's website there are other (better) layouts and aluminum is an option, but you would have to seek them out. If you are concerned about costs you are right to want something smaller. The LOA on this boat is more than 54'- the sprit is fixed, not retractable - so you'll be paying for 12 extra feet everywhere you go.
Something comparable, but smaller, might be a Bristol Channel Cutter or perhaps an Island Packet, though finding either in aluminum might be a challenge.

Boat: So many boats to choose from. Would prefer something that is not an AWB, and that is beachable...
