Curious how these wheel steering systems work with Windvanes? I’ve been reading the typical chain or belt drive mechanisms on pedestal steering often cause excess resistance which some windvanes can’t overcome.

Anyone experienced such a problem?

( FYI, My fav Windvane is the Cape Horn. I only know about using it with tillers.)

Thanks
Glenn

You could try asking the forum. There will certainly people on there that have such experience.

One of these were listed earlier. They are absolutely bullet-proof. The numbers on SailboatData.com confirm this. Really great boat for the "Non Tire Kicker".

Union 36 Cutter $16,750 in Galveston area.
Plenty of teak on her but the decks are glass.

These boats have very spacious interiors for the length. Very comfortable to live on, I'd say. The interior looks in decent shape.

I don't recognise the engine, is it a Perkins? Low hours, if genuine, must have been repowered. The original was a Volvo, according to Sailboat Data.

Not very well organized pictures but it has a wind vane, some sort of windlass (with what looks like a CQR), out of cockpit main traveller, frames for dodger and bimini.

I think this is worth a look.

That is a freakin killer deal for one of those. These go for anywhere from $30k for a beat to crap one to about $70k for a good one. This one says fair but at least no teak decks.

The engine looks like the 4-108, 50hp. Standard in a lot of these. Easy to work on and tons of parts.

It is infact a perkins 4-108 and what looks like a monitor windvane on the stern and a 35 pound CQR on the anchor roller.
The interior looks good if I were on the gulf coast I just might bite that one .

Picture is of a known perkins 4-108

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Might be a very good deal. A union 36 is for sale now innSeattle for $65k…

The Union 36 is a Bob Perry design, I think, that got boot legged by an unscrupulous Asian boat yard and rebranded as the Union 36. There is some on line history on the controversy and also a couple of independent write ups about boat building techniques used with this line of vessel. If I remember correctly, the boats generally have a good reputation, just a questionable pedigree…

This person go's a long way telling the reader about the boat. I love that! When reading most advertising it always strikes me that they write the text thinking the potential buyer's have a 6th sense and already know what the owner knows. That sellers also should have a copy and paste long long file on the boat that they can just email to those interested. Take the time write it once and send it to anyone with questions. You would still have to do some verification by actually looking, and not everything is addressed, but this seller has a good idea what you want to know.
Also places like Craigslist, Face Book don't charge by the word. Why not take advantage.

Checked out the youtube link. Wow that boat was really going with just the jib. Sailboat data says
Bal./Disp.:
43.10

That should make for a stiff boat I think.
