Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Hunter 33 in Kingston (Lake Ontario) asking $22,000 cdn.

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/kin...ationFlag=true

This boat has 4 foot draft!

FROM THE AD:

OPEN BOAT THIS SATURDAY 3 PM
I am offering my beloved Hunter 33 Sailboat Bees Knees for sale.
She is my absolute dream boat and I am only selling because I just had a Baby and she would sit in the Yard for the next years.
Please view my YouTube Video:

The Bees Knees has been very well taken care of and is out of water since October 2016. My friendly boat neighbour aired her out a few times in Summer 2017 before she got shrink wrapped in Autumn 2017. When I talk about new in the listing I am talking 2015 and younger.

This boat is in excellent sailing condition and comes with tons of upgrades as I originally wanted to sail her across the Atlantic to Europe. She holds the German Flag Certificate under my name. She is sturdy and fast (we did 7.4 knots without pushing it) and very reliable.

Interior:
- Quarterbirth Aft
- Nav table under the stairs
- Head Aft with Shower
- Galley with tons of storage, 2 burner propane stove, Icebox, sink
- Saloon with seatee which converts into queen, swing table, seaberth, lots of storage all around
- Forward V berth with door, two closets
- 2 opening hatches, 11 opening ports, great ventilation, solar vent
There is absolutely no mold on the boat to the best of my knowledge.
- wooden floors
General Specs
- LOA 32.67
- Beam 10.17
- Displacement 10600 lbs
- Ballast / Displacement Ratio 38.69 Percent which makes her very safe
- Year 1981
- Engine Yanmar Diesel in great shape with minor minor oil leak
- 48 gallons water tank">fresh water tank, she has a hot water heater (runs of engine and batteries)
- Shoal Draft Bulb Keel
- cleaned out and well maintained Diesel tank under cockpit
Equipment
- New Head Sail, New Jib Sail
- Spare Head Sail, Genua, Spinnaker (and even more, so many sails..)
- New Boom with new reefing System
- All Sheets new
- 2 Depth Finders
- 2 Chartplotters (one installed in cockpit, Garmin, one installed on the Nav Table)
- Additional Handheld GPS
- Compass mounted at Stearing Wheel
- Additional Hendheld Compass
- Set up for wind indicator but not installed
- Handheld wind indicator
- Stationary VHF Radio at Nav Station
- VHF Radio in Cockpit
- Additional Handheld VHF Radio
- 6 Person Plastimo Offshore Life Raft (Needs to be serviced - never inflated, in crate)
- Many life jackets - 2 or 3 of them automatic inflatable
- weather gear">Foul weather gear (Unisex)
- New Fire Extinguishers, Smoke and Carbon Dioxide Detector
- Emergency Plug, Emergency Flags, Signal Flares and more
- Floating Bildge Pump and Manual Bildge Pump
- Spare Parts and Tools
- New inflatable fun dinghy - nothing proper but gets you on the Islands
- All winches work great
- 2 New Battery Banks

There was a survey done in 2014 and all recommandations pointed out by the surveyor have been brought to excellent condition.
What the boat Needs? New Antifouling.
For Looks, I would paint her deck as well, as the paint job a previous owner did (many many years ago) wasn't the greatest - but she doesn't Need it.
For an Ocean Crossing: the only thing I would have added on is AIS.

To the best of my knowledge EVERYTHING is in perfect working / sailing condition.

Please contact me via email to arrange a telephone - I am currently in Europe and we have 6h time difference.

I love that Niagara Steadman. I wonder if anyone has ever removed that dinette and made that area into a double cabin?
Cheers

Steady's Notes

The photos of the boat show a nice looking boat, in what appears to be good condition for its age. However, a boat this age will possibly require some updating of wiring and plumbing, etc. Notice that several items have already been updated, most notably the relatively recent Diesel engine. Key points to consider are the engine, standing rigging, Portland Pudgy dinghy and davits included, relatively new electronics, "new" Harken ST winches and furler, electric windlass, etc.

I am posting the ad's description of these updates and gear, as they do represent good additions that have some value. As with any boat, a survey is a good idea. Caveat Emptor.

I like what I see in the photos, for a boat this age. There are more photos showing the interior and cockpit and details on the linked page.

My Disclaimers and Requests

I have no financial or other connection to this boat or the seller.
I have not seen this boat in person, nor have I sailed on it.
As with any boat, it is a good idea to research the design to learn about how they sail, common problems and owner opinions.
As with any boat, it is smart to have a qualified yacht surveyor perform a survey of the boat to assess its condition.
I am posting this to help others find boats. This one caught my eye, and I hope this thread helps others find a good fit for them.
I hope this thread proves helpful to CF Members. If so, let me know, as it is nice to know the time spent on it has helped others.
IF you purchase this boat, let me know (a PM would be OK).
IF you purchase this boat, I would enjoy seeing it, or going for a sail on it, if I am ever in your area. Or, if you own a similar or sister boat send me a PM. I enjoy sailing on a wide variety of boats and would like to get some time on many designs, including this one.

Beautiful boat, wonder what the displacement is. It looks like an S&S or Alberg designed boat, just love the looks of her.

Beautiful Pearson Vanguard, a bit dated but beautiful. Perhaps a bit pricey considering all the older boats on the market that are almost being given away. Some with newer diesels and sails and still cant find buyers. Oh well, I guess many folks aren't interested in the classics.

Only pricey if it's not in the condition it appears to be. If it's well maintained, sails & rigging in good shape then IMO a bargain, sweet boat.

Its a beauty for sure, although that powder blue paint is ahhh "special". Easy fix though for such a beautiful boat with classic lines.

No Don, its a bad powder blue color and overpriced. At least that's what I keep telling myself to keep from doing anything silly . It really is a beautiful boat. In my mind its the perfect layout and wonderfully sized and still very trailer able.

Too wide to avoid permits for most states.

Not that I could jump just now anyway. . .

Yeah no permits is nice to be sure but if its the dream boat I don't think its a big deal. But I am happy that the Columbia 29 were picking up this month is only eight feet beam.
