Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
This might be a great deal! Only 1 pic so hard to tell but sounds good. It's been repowered with a Beta & is a good looking well respected design from a well respected builder. Looks like it has all the options you'd want and if it's in the condition it's reported to be in this is a steal.

$15,000 42' Steel Cutter.
Here's an example of a respected designer's work in a 42' steel cutter, an Atkin Island Princess.
Although a bit of a project, there seems to perennially be a lot of folks obsessed with steel boats.
New sails, rebuilt diesel, interior well painted and insulated, etc. $15,000
Although work required, much done. Images show very well, clean interior.

Many more nice photos that don't want to link here - for me, anyway.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
After a bit of back and forth the Cal 39 was listed with slightly different attributes then was the reality.
It has a pathfinder engine(not universal) and a 6'8 draft(not 5'6).
It came up after my verbal offer was accepted and 3 days of going back and forth with the owner.. I don't think the mistake was nefarious or purposeful but the correct info was certainly available by simply reading the owners manual before listing the boat.
I have a feeling most of those issues would have been avoided had the owner listed this with a broker rather than try selling it himself. Just updating this thread. Still not a bad boat for the price..Just a different animal.

CAL 31
LOA= 31’

Steadman’s Notes:
1. Looks like a nice interior and well kept boat for its age, size and Asking Price.
2. Note the newer engine with low hours
3. Note the AC.
4. Looks like a nice boat for beginning coastal cruising or local sailing.
5. Notice the new instrument.

Broker’s Description: “This Cal 31 is a lovely example of this Bill Lapworth design. She boasts a 2009 Universal 25hp fresh-water-cooled diesel with a 122 hours on it. Her 16,000 BTU AC/reversal-cycle heat unit is also a recent upgrade. While the present owner purchased her recently to discover the joy of sailing and have enjoyed their vessel that they purchased a larger Cal. The previous owner cared for her for 25 years. “

Beneteau 35s5
Asking Price = $29,900

Steadman’s Notes:
There is a lot about this boat I like, if one is looking for a more modern hull design with a “Euro” styled interior. While the styling may not appeal to everyone, it does to some who like the design elements, the white settee cushions, etc. Or the cockpit seating. Or the transom design. Etc.
The sale ad says the boat has new(er) Main, Engine has low hours, etc.

Damn it Steady !!! That bene looks good, my wife actually was quite impressed with it.
Enough so that she wanted me to ask if anyone is in kemah that would be willing to take a look?
The only issues I'm seeing jump out at me is some wear and tear, especially headliners. Needing some electronics and a dodger. And doesn't list age on standing rigging.
Anyone who may have info on it, please pm me.
Thanks

It’s about a 2 minute walk from our boat. I might be able to take a look Thursday or Friday if you’d like me to.
