Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Dufour 31
Year = 1982
Asking Price = $5,000
Location = Rhode Island, USA
______________
Steady's Notes
This boat may have been linked in this thread before. I do not recall looking at this boat myself. I do seem to recall someone started a thread asking about the Dufour 31 model. I do not have time to do a full profile on this model, so you should (as always) do your own research to know more about this brand and this model.
Apparently it is still available. I suspect it has been hard to sell for some reason.
Notice the disclaimer on the ad about the engine. As with any used boat, and especially one advertized at this very low price, Caveat Emptor!
It is a boat with a tiller, something I like in smaller boats (30 feet or so). The interior looks nicer than some comparable American made boats of this size and price point.

I have not seen this boat in person, nor have I sailed on it.
As with any boat, it is a good idea to research the design to learn about how they sail, common problems and owner opinions.
As with any boat, it is smart to have a qualified yacht surveyor perform a survey of the boat to assess its condition.
I am posting this to help others find boats. This one caught my eye, and I hope this thread helps others find a good fit for them.
I hope this thread proves helpful to CF Members. If so, let me know, as it is nice to know the time spent on it has helped others.
IF you purchase this boat, let me know (a PM would be OK).
IF you purchase this boat, I would enjoy seeing it, or going for a sail on it, if I am ever in your area. Or, if you own a similar or sister boat send me a PM. I enjoy sailing on a wide variety of boats and would like to get some time on many designs, including this one.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
If you liked the Bristol 32 in Florida, but are on the wrong coast - like me, there is another available in Seattle. Looks to be a clean boat, but not as well equiped as the previous boat. One day when I graduate from my little Catalina 22, I'll get a big boys & girls boat!

Islander 30 Mk2
___________________________
Steady's Notes
The photos of the boat show a nice looking boat, in what appears to be good condition. It appears well maintained (nice looking paint on deck and cockpit, clean interior, wood looks good).
It looks like a nice layout and features for a coastal cruiser of this size.
Most notably is the Yanmar Diesel engine, because this boat was repowered and has relatively few hours (242) on the Diesel engine.
As with any boat, a survey is a good idea. Caveat Emptor.
I like what I see in the photos. There are more photos showing the interior and cockpit and details on the linked page.

Thanks Hpeer! You had mentioned the 2 yr timeline in our conversation before we started the rebuild. I thought you were a bit long, but turns out that was a 100% right on the money. I’m going to have to get your refit estimate on the next one we do too

I like what I see in the photos for this age and asking price.
Most importantly, several key items have been updated within the last 20 years, including the Engine, Mast, Rigging, Fuel Tank, Batteries, and less importantly, cushions.
There are more photos showing the interior and cockpit and details on the linked page.
Ad says:
"She had a new 30-HP Yanmar 3YM30 installed in 2004, new fuel tank in 2006, new interior cushions in 2007, new mast and rigging in 1998 and 2 new gel batteries in 2013. She comes with a mainsail and a 150 furling Genoa. Great for sailing in those skinny waters as she only draws 4-feet with the centerboard up."

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Catalina 30
___________________________
Steady's Notes
The photos of the boat show a nice looking boat, in what appears to be very good condition, considering its age and Asking Price.
While the Catalina 30 model is very popular and common, the amount of good upgrades made to this one make this one stand out from the many others on the market.
The previous owner has spent a lot of money already, allowing the next owner to get an inexpensive boat with many new or recent or relatively new upgrades.
Why Very Good Condition?
Because of the numerous good updates which include:
a 2006 Beta Marine 20hp. diesel with very low hours; wheel steering; 2010 mainsail; Harken roller furling system with 2009 genoa; 2017 bimini; 2009 dodger; new winches, traveler, and blocks in 2014 plus much more (see below)
As with any boat, a survey is a good idea. Caveat Emptor.
I like what I see in the photos. There are more photos showing the interior and cockpit and details on the linked page.
