Steady's Notes

1.The photos of the boat show a nice looking boat, in what appears to be very good condition. As with any boat, a survey is a good idea. Caveat Emptor (any boat). Condition is critical for older boats, and looking at this boat's list of updated gear and the rebuild of engine components is good to see.

2. I like what I see in the photos. Especially the interior finish and design. The use of wood looks very nice. I like the galley. This boat suits my personal taste.

3. This boat has three cabins, with two private cabins aft.

4. I like a chart table. It has one.

5. One feature that makes this less preferable for some buyers is the 7 foot draft. That can pose some limitations on cruising parts of the Florida coast, parts of the Bahamas and may lead to more care needed in the ICW. But, other CF members have cruised those areas and the Caribbean and Pacific and Med using boats with 7 foot draft, and it is not a problem on the Pacific or those areas.

My following comments are in a friendly tone of voice, and not argumentative or critical, just stating what I see too.
I had not seen this boat mentioned on CF before.
UNCIVILIZED made good observations.

As for "an acquired taste" I agree, but I think that way of ALL boats.

The Doberplast boat reminds me of a Swan 40 or Swan 411 from the 1970s and later, in layout and styling design. Those too have the center hatch with a tall ladder. So, the styling (location of hatch and interior and cockpit) is not very different from what some sailors like/prefer, based on proven designs.

I have crewed for about 750 miles offshore on a Swan 48, and it also had the center hatch with a ladder. Other boats (some cruising designs, especially center cockpit boats) have tall ladders too. Climbing them does require some effort and may not be for everyone. But, many people have done it and will do it. I will attach a few photos showing the Swan hatch and ladder (Swan 40 or 411 boats).

Here is a link I found for this Doberplast boat, listed on Yachtworld too, with several more photos showing more detail, storage, deck and cockpit, and closer view of the rudder and hull out of the water.

It is a lot of boat and cruising gear for the money (just $25K). Not for everyone, but no boat is, IMO.

I have never heard of that boat. But after looking at the photos and the price my first reaction was "what's wrong with it?" It sounds too cheap.

This is a great looking Bayfield for very few dollars. Bayfield's are well made, desirable passagemakers with modest draft. I'm wondering why this one is priced so low at $15,000 USD?

The ad says its a 45, but I don't think they made a 45. Its either a 36 or a 40. I'm not sure if the 36 and 40 are actually the same boat.

Friendly Advice:
The moderators of CF (who do a great job) may delete your post in this thread, IF you simply duplicate the info and photos shown in the Classifieds ad. So, don't do that.

So...

My Friendly Suggestion:
In this thread, post a single photo about your boat, and DESCRIBE your boat model with your opinion and experience on the TYPE or MODEL of boat and then add a link to the CF Classified ad you started too. Make sure you add diffferent content in this thread (more descriptive, likes, favorite features, etc.).

I think if you do that, it will make it more likely your post in this thread will get more attention, educate others about your boat model, increase interest in seeing your advertised boat (with more photos) and keep the CF mods happy.

I personally don't mind cross postings, but I am not a moderator.

So here goes:

Westerly boats in general have a good reputation for being strongly built, capable, and perfectly able to withstand the ravages of time if looked after properly.
The Seahawk 34 (1986) I am selling is a great example, fully equipped with a recent(ish) engine, and set up for easy sailing from the safe center cockpit (where all lines are led). Below decks, the space must be seen and experienced to be believed. Have a look at the general layout and then head over to the Classifieds section for more photos and full details.
