Definitely. The sad thing is there are a lot of boats of around that size from the 1980s that need a full rebuild.
I think this is a total loss. The wonder is it was hosed down by the fire dept before it sank with all its fuel on board...

Good ad!
It's a great boat, and pretty well-priced, I'd say.
Good luck to your friend.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Well I'm in no rush....bummer for buddy though.
Older project boats have almost zero value unless the right person comes along to resurrect them, and I am not sure how many right people there are.
People with deep pockets can just buy better boats.
Sunk boats are worth even less.
I looked at a very poor boat a few weeks ago, owner wouldn't budge on $10k asking, it was missing bits of rod rigging, all secondary winches, cored hull was half done sketchily. I would not have taken it on for free
My project was stored indoors for 20 yrs...
so it's dry and sound....I got it for practically nothing.... we'll see how it works out.

Was your boat an owner-finished hull or factory finished?

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Owner finished and not particularly well re interior finish. Builder was pretty salty though, so added extra internal stringers to the bow, and various other areas he felt needed extra bracing.
It's dry though, and easy access to chain plates etc...not many of these were factory finished. Definitely a project, but the foundation is good, and she's a proven Bluewater traveller.
Pilothouse center cockpit is also a pretty modern design, I like it alot.

Nice job Patrick , I love the Corbin 39.
We have a project boat. I like projects. I’m getting kinda tired of non stop issues though. At least our ports and hatches no longer leak. Good luck with the Corbin.

Not to far from the Missouri River and at under 6 ft draft you can motor all the way to the gulf of Mexico.

What does that mean for those of us who bought our boats at the peak of the used boat market?

If you keep a boat in really good condition, there's always a market for it, imo.
If the boat has been neglected and needs major work (engine, sails, canvas, upholstery, paint job, rigging, spars...) then it's hard to sell.
Some boats can have a negative real value - the disposal cost of the remains...

Pretty much the same as buying a house at the top of the market in '07..

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Ramron67 for sure some of my clients will get hurt when they come to sell. FOMO really blinded some people and YouTube put a real gloss on the whole fix a boat up and go cruising thing.
Still a well maintained/upgraded boat will be easier to sell than a project boat when the market cools.
Cheers

More importantly, I am not planning on selling my boat any time soon, so I am not terribly concerned.
Keeping the boat in good condition is important, not just for resale, but also for your enjoyment of the boat.
Oh, and by the way, I also bought a house just before the housing crisis...
