Personally, I put the contents of the box into the home composter that I keep for my flowers and trees. Separate from household waste that I used for the vegetable garden.

I was just shovelling the household pile today, ready for winter.

They call them composting toilets but its not composting. They just separate most liquids and solids. I guess off shore you would dump it by removing both compartments and empty over the side. The solids I suppose are inside a plastic bag inside the toilet, people twist the top of the bag and drop it off in the marina dumpster. That is most likely illegal dumping human sewerage in a dumpster. You could go to the marina toilets and dump it down a toilet. That would be legal but I wonder how pleasant it would be? Can't flush the plastic bag, liquids another trip or dump it at the dock when no one is looking. I think they have potential if you can deal with the transportation of the 'compost".

I see a lot of used boats on the market coming equip with them now. When your doing a walk around you need to know what your buying. I see more boats with electric motors now, I don't know what to think of those. That would cause me considerable anxiety.

If you put the words "composting" or "electric motor" into the forum Search, you will find lots of threads about those things.

If you buy a used boat and you don't like the plumbing arrangement, change it.

1976 Downeaster Sailboat 32 FT - $11,000 (Pensacola)



Google the name, the couple had a blog for sometime, did a lot of cruising around N.E. and Canada. The PHRF ratings on these are about the same as the Westsail 32.
One reviewer who owned both boats over the years says this one doesn't hobbyhorse like his Westsail does. Anyway for the price it might be worth a real look.

I used to sail a Downeaster 38 and I liked it, it sailed well though it was not a high performance boat. I seen a few of those on the market lately I can't remember where. It's strange but when you notice a particular boat for sale you often find 2 or 3 others of the same model. Later in the year you won't find those boats anywhere. Feast or famine

A boat with a PHRF of just under 140, a go anywhere boat. Had good reviews .
This one has been for sale for a long time. If you see the photos look at the line in the wood at cabin top around ports. Is that from cabin top flexing/ delamination?

A good find. I like it. I guess with a fairly large engine, shallow draft, and pilot house it counts as a motor sailor, but it has some good gear.

This kind of boat could be great for coastal cruising, certainly for seasonal migration up and down the ICW.
