Thanks for the positive feedback!
Yep, that Morgan looks nice (for the price too).
I don't usually like "light blue boats" but the paint on that makes it stand out and I found myself liking the look and hue/color very much too. Good choice for a boat color.
In case anyone wonders, I love to see the latest in high tech boats, love metal boats, and really love old traditional boats. But, the boats from the 1960's and some 1970s boats also appeal to me too.
I will be posting more soon, but I encourage you or anyone else to post some too, just try to include description/photo/comments/price/location/features as mentioned in the top post of this thread. The "10 Points Guidelines" for posting is to help us all add value to the thread.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Next up is a classic "blue water" boat from the 1970s. In fact, according to many accounts, a double page photo spread on this type of boat is what launched the growth of yachting in traditional boats in the USA in the late 1970s.
This is the first example I have posted of this type (the Westsail 32) Unfortunately, there is only one photo (see below) in the sale listing. So, we have little to go on at this point. Perhaps someone on CF can go visit the boat and get some more photos of it.
Key Points to Look For:
1. Was this boat finished by the factory or by the initial owner?
2. This style of boat may have some teak on the exterior.
3. Look carefully at the chainplates and the bowsprit too.
_____________
32-FT WESTSAIL, 1975 $28,000
LOCATION = San Francisco Bay Area
In the obscure sale notice I saw posted (6/15/2015) there is this information:
"Excellent condition.
New 44hp Yanmar diesel,
roller furling jib,
7 bags of headsails,
Aries windvane,
Shipmate 3-burner stove,
3 anchors,
new dodger,
AC/DC, VHF, stereo radio, trickle charger, galvanic isolator.
Recently hauled and bottom painted.
Teak and mahogany interior looks like new."
More information on this particular boat here: Latitude 38 - The West's Premier Sailing and Marine Magazine
Photo below with BLUE stripe on hull is this boat.
_______________
In addition, there is a second boat of this type listed in the same location (but different boat location).
32-FT WESTSAIL, 1972 $27,000
Portland, OR
_____________
NOTE: I posted some information about this boat for discussion purposes only. I do NOT have any financial ties to this boat or the seller. I do NOT have personal experience on this boat. Caveat Emptor!

My observations:
It is a "classic" Sparkman & Stephens design in wood. Yes, wood.
What is noteworthy about this boat? You can buy it for just $1,000! (without the new in crate motor).

I love this boat, but have no qualifications for taking care of such a classic. Ahh, to dream! Plus, $9,000 is kind of high for an engine, isn't it?

I don't think so. Not for a new engine (still in crate).

Saint,
It's a bargain, looking at a minimum of $12,000.
That said, it is an old timber boat, and would need an owner who knows a good timber shipwright for counsel. Some stuff needs done yesterday, some is more put-offable.
Cheers.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
I just wanted to give hope to the budget challenged. I just recently purchased a Morgan OI 33 for $10K. It is in stunning shape. 9 usable sails. Repowered in the 90s with a gray marine 55 which now has about 500 hours on it. No holding tank. It has a center board! And a spare! No corrosion at all in the the keel step. Rerigged in the late 90s I think. No dodger / Bimini. Hanked on sails.
The point is that I was told (and you will be told) "you can't get much for under $20K". You definitely have to be careful but solid old boats are out there. And you must count on spending more to keep it in shape.

I am assuming this is excess uncombusted diesel. I am not sure how to go about fixing it. If anyone has had similar problems & can roughly describe what the cause/solution was I would be very grateful.

Is is still for sale?
The linked post looks like it is in "archive" mode and not in the regular classifieds for sale boats, and I found no way to post this comment in that listing.
I am not in the market for that type of boat myself, but it does look like a very nice condition one of that type.

For 10k and a couple more in upgrades you can sail around the world in comfort and style. You should be a basic competent handy person as well.
