I lived on the Big Island for 7 years. By far the most unfriendly place I have ever seen in regards to boaters. I sold my beloved "Faiaoahe", an Ingrid 38 to someone who lived there. During a storm at anchorage she ended up on the rocks under very suspicious circumstances.

That boat should have the engine with the hand start back up option. If it does, the decompression maybe stuck and not letting the engine hold compression.

That's true if it has the original MD7A (2 cylinder, 13hp.) I could be a number of other things like no clearance on the valve tappets, blown head gasket, cracked block or head and/or seized valve train.

For a dollar I'd take that gamble.

Oh absolutely! If they're basically giving away the boat, a handy person could yank that relic MD7A out and replace it with a Yanmar or Beta engiine and still be miles ahead. But isn't it funny how people here never jump on stuff like this who are apparently boat hunting.

Not sure about the “Icebox with new conversation kit.”
Does that mean that every time you open the icebox, people come around for a chat?
Could be a positive or negative depending on your view on life!

If I were in the country I would be headed northeast.

I am boat hunting - sort of ! Lol. I am looking at boats for my next one, but I'm not quite in a position to buy one just yet - almost there...
My biggest dilemma I have access to a free slip, but using that option limits the size and draft of what I could get. 27-30 ft and it really needs to be less than 4 ft draft. I really want something bigger than that.
I would seriously consider that Cape Dory except that its too far away for me to effectively do anything about it. Time and money-wise. Not enough free time to get up there and get it back - I am still working. It would take too much money to just ship it.
If it was here locally this might be something I would be able to do. I think a lot of people might be in the same position.
