Ericson 46 masthead sloop
I really like the underberth storage in the V-berth. Simple and tons of space. I wish that more boats would do it like that.

Best you keep looking.

There are literally hundreds of boats under 30ft that have successfully made far greater voyages and brought their crew across the oceans safely.

You people have gotten way off topic just to ridicule me for my opinion. I'm starting to see why few people stay here.

I think you started the ridicule so have no right to get huffy now.

BTW, CA to HI is downhill all the way in season. I did an Atlantic crossing in a boat measuring 30'6" and not only was I not terrified, it was one of the highlights of my life to date. Tremendous fun.

Sam Holmes comes off like a guy that smokes a lot of weed. Wind Hippie does too. That's not to say that I don't enjoy both of their vids and admire them for what they're taking on, but maybe that's a component of feeling bulletproof in a tiny boat.

I can assure you weed does not make you feel bulletproof. You are thinking of cocaine and/or tequila. For sure cocaine and tequila would have you swimming the Atlantic if the coca wouldn't get ruined.

What I admire about Sam Holmes is that he has a medical condition and he does not let that get in his way

Hey, you probably didn't mean to give the impression that you did.

Perhaps we could rephrase your comment?

"I would have been a bit scared to cross an ocean in a small boat".

Look up Tania Aebi or Robin Lee Graham. Crossed oceans before satellite navigation was common...using a sextant.

I would say if you are single handing, a small boat is a lot easier to manage.

An opinion?...You made an erroneous statement based on zero knowledge of sailing and people are not ridiculing you as much as they are calling you out. But isn't ridiculing what you do every time a fair to good boat comes along that is a great deal. It's too this or too that. It's ok to be a dreamer but you can do yourself a lot of good by listening and not acting like you know something.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

It's just that little boats aren't necessarily unsafe, and many people have done the trip to Hawaii (and many other much more difficult trips) in boats under 30' and enjoyed it. This guy wrote a book about self-steering and he practiced all the way to Hawaii and Alaska and back in this little boat, a 20' plywood boat "Island Girl":
By the way it is a great little book, "Self-steering for Sailing Craft" by John S. Letcher.
