On the other hand, this would make the perfect experimental platform.
Single engine hooked up to a generator powering two electric drives in each hull.
Make the cat as light as possible and stick a high performance rig/sails on it.
Put a ladder from the cab to the bow cross member.
Deck it out in solar and build a lightweight interior

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
I received the email below from the Watkins owner's group. I was considering an Watkins and put myself on their email list, although I never bought that boat.

Subject: Watkins W36AC - free project boat - Wildwood, NJ
Good Afternoon,
We have a 35.7', 1980 Watkins W36AC project sailboat to give away. It is my understanding that it will need to be towed from it's moored location in the water. Attached are photos of the boat. Please let me know if you know of anyone who may be interested in taking this sailboat.
Thank you!
Kim

Yep. It's a former racing boat, probably (suit of racing sails), but you can't complain about the engine access!

Check rigging and replace if necessary? Add a trysail and storm jib? Spare rudder cassette?
It's a pretty proven design.

Yes, they won a lot of Transpacs in their day.
Notice rib and hard dodger, too.

Which of the 3 above are you referring to?
The boat is interesting but I agree with you Q gets a lot wrong.
