And Now For Something Completely Different

Ok, this boat is not my cup of tea, but I do think it is "noteworthy":

Generally 6% plus an additional locality tax determined by each county. My county(Nassau) charges a locality tax of 1% on the first $5000, which would be an additional $50.
So the tax on a $30,000 vessel in my county would be $1,800 plus another $50.
There are loopholes to lessen or avoid this tax.

What kind of loopholes? I lived on Fort Myers Beach for a number of years and never heard that there was a way to reduce the tax.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

The prices in the States are very attractive to me sitting here in the UK ,if you can haggle those prices down a bit as well , I personally don't fancy anything over 40ft ,the costs of the repairs ,but I'd love to inspect the engine on that Morgan ,if it's fixable that ones a Buy

I've got another three years before all of my pension pots kick in ,I'm hoping that it's back to being a buyers market by then ,my rough plan is to fly to Florida ,hire a car and go boat hunting lol ,not much of a plan but it's the One I've got

Sounds lkike a good plan. I've never seen a diesel that could not be brought back to life.

There are a few ways to skirt or lessen the tax. Private sales are an easy example.
It also depends on where the boat is or will be registered, where it was sold and if the purchase was private or commercial.
Sen. John Kerry has more info if you need it.

1981 Yorktown Sloop - $16,000 (Wilmington Calif)

As far as Yorktowns go, not a bad looking boat.
