Beautiful boat. She looks to be hard chine.

My experience with O'Days has been that they're well built boats but they aren't performers. It's kind of like owning a Buick. I wouldn't mind having another.

The bimini, dodger and roller furling are definite negatives, but at least they aren't structural or design issues and can be remedied by a new owner. Smaller boats like that aren't generally known for having a lot of ventilation. This one does have at least 4 portholes in addition to the hatches.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Thanks all for the feedback on the O'day. The boat is on a lake and will be a day sailor. We're probably crazy for this but kind of like the idea of the hank on headsail (is that the name of the system?). The owner has like 5 different sails since he races it, so while it's some more work, we think we'll enjoy learning more about when to use a 110 vs. a 150, etc.

Seems the general consensus is to stay away though . .

I wonder if the naysayers have any experience with O'Days to back these opinions. I expect not as the performance rating is the same as the Catalina 30 and slightly better than the Hunter 30.
In my experience and from hands on comparisons, the build quality is as good or better than Catalina and better than Hunter.
Nothing wrong with hank on headsails, just ask Lynn Pardey. When the wind picks up the furled 150 will be crap, the 110 will be great.

Had an Oday 22 trailer sailor from 1974. Great lake boat.

Gladly...I had a friend in Santa Cruz, Ca. that was sold a smaller O'day. They were generally cheaper, used than the Catalina which appealed to him. He lived aboard for awhile and noticed bulkhead delamination. Catalina was a much better build. The fact that so many of them are around today proves that.

Performance means little if you account for poor build quality.

My first sailboat was an O'Day and I have nothing but good memories of it. The boat was very well built, quite unlike the Hunter that I purchased next. I'd recommend O'Day to anyone looking at that class of boat.

You have listed a ton of boats here. This however has to be the best deal I have seen. What a beauty she is!
