I'm not sure if this thread is still active. But, I have just listed my 1978
Columbia 8.7
monohull sailboat for $10,000 in Kenosha, WI. It has served us well as a cruiser and a bit of
racing over that time on the beautiful, yet sometimes challenging waters of Lake Michigan. We purchased the boat sight unseen from the
Chesapeake Bay seller in 2004 based on conversations with the owner and a recent
survey. We hired it transported from
New Jersey to our home harbor in Illinois. We were
sold on this Alan Payne design because of the great stability factor. For us, as our first big
water boat, little heel was important. Other fators that helped us decide on this model were the 10' beam and 6'+
headroom in the
cockpit. We have done many upgrades and renovations over these 16 seasons of sailing "Penny Lane". They include restoring chainplates and repainting the
deck with Keewee Grip; maintaining exterior &
interior teak; running all lines to the
cockpit; replacing the
genoa; replaced
lifelines. And, we enjoyed many cruising adventures throughout the IL, WI and crossings to the Michigan shores. We continue to sail this 2019 season but plan to end our big
water sailing after this year to focus on kayaking as we travel in our "land yacht" in our
retirement.
It is listed in the "Boats for Sale" forum on Cruiser's Forum. I will attach a couple pictures.....sorry about the sideways orientation of the
photo. I'm still trying to figure out how to bring them in right side up.
