Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Anyone wanna comment on this one?
I've always liked the E39B...but those are racer/cruisers and this thing is totally more favorable IMO as it's a pirate boat!
What say the forum? Should I consider making the trip to Grenada?

ERICSON 36C sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com
At any price, I would consider one for my private use as a floating caravan that can cross the pond too. At this price I would just check the condition of the hull and then calculate in all the updates that are required. This may be the engine, the rigging (noticed her odd mast?) the sails as well as hull rep and other such time and money consuming projects. Still, the design is superb.
I remember not truly liking their HUGE cockpit. You do not want to catch a wave. BUT such a cockpit is fantastic news in a tropical anchorage ...
They are not racers but they are plenty of boat for the money.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
I would 1) make sure the boat exists, 2) price of tickets to Grenada.
Fly, try, dry only then buy (or else tell yourself you have had an exciting weekend in a tropical destination, what the hell you deserve this).
Talk to people at Ericson owners group - they will tell you where the regular weak spots of the design are - each design has some trouble spots that show up over time.
Make sure the owner agrees with you on who pays what portion of boatyard/travelift charges - should you go ahead with the buy. I normally request the becoming ex owner to pay for the travelift - if there are very serious problems found under waterline. If she is fine under her waterlineline, I pay the lift and the boatyard bill as the boat stays in the boatyard anyways to scrub, fix and paint.
Let us know how this goes.

Thanks Don, no survey, I couldn't be there for another month. Was afraid someone els would get it. Also No hour meter on engine. Its probably up there. At least it has lots of room around the engine. I know he just mostly motored it up from south Fl.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Hey all, just signed up and ran across this thread. I just "stole" a Westsail from a couple moving up in years. 20k! Having Bud Taplin doing the survey. I'm a bit starstruck with that development... I wanted to let the poor ppl know that, patience and perseverance will get you a great boat at the right price! Now, about that mooring... Probably not the right thread to ask but, if anyone knows of availability in Morro Bay or Port of San Luis, that would keep my dreams moving full steam ahead!

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
i know of a beautiful center cockpit formosa 41 in michigan--totally refit-- you put it together and have it for 10k usd. not bad deal.
i know of a project cheoy lee 42 in mazatlan, and a catalina 27 in mazatlan. pricing reasonable. lemme know if interested.
the catalina is in beautiful shape and the cheoy lee is special. has a 4-236 that sounds awesome. is in use currently sailing and recreating, as sailboats do.is a sloop currently.
