Boats as Tough as S&S 34 ?

Hi , another newbie quetion , I’m afraid its another what boat post
, serch other threads and not come to a conclusion

Looking for a sailing boat under $300,000
For long term blue water cruiser that would be at home in the furious fifties , and stand up to knockdowns etc , under 38 ft , toughness and safety over comfort , can be single handed .with good tankage.

No canoe ends, Steels hull a bonus, but not aluminum ,f/glass ok .
from a Large boat yards all so a bonus.

Along the lines of and as tough as S&S (Sparkman and Stephens) 34 ,

any offers

Cheeers.

Hi JBeam, it's like reading my initial post all over again.

My decision, I am looking for a Pacific Seacraft 37. Still haven't found it,so if you are in OZ back off

Good luck

Do you want a modern boat or the equivalents to the S&S 34?

There are a number of boats in the vintage of the S&S that are as strong and can outperform the S&S>

awash whilst I see your point, I have to point out the greater benefit, no matter how pissed you are, whichever way you are sailing the boat, the "bow" is still facing forward

Lancerbye,

There is a very nice Bavaria 42 centre cockpit, fully equipped for sale here in Hobart at the moment, for about $235,000.

As it already has been sailing down here in the roaring forties, I would give it a go.

Just another thought.

Contact Jarkan yachts in Sydney, he builds on customer order and they are very good boats.

Cheers

Re: Boats as Tough as S&S 34 ?

Cheers ken ,
Thanks for the inputs ,Was thinking along the lines of production boat , if I was going for a custom build id got for steel , bounces of things better in remote areas

Ok forget keel and rudder design

Lets go with

Production sailing boat under $300,000

For long term blue water cruiser
At home in the furious fifties
stand up to knockdowns with a smile
that’s comparable in toughness to the s @ s 34

James wondered why I never seamed to get any were in a canoe yachts’

cheers guys

Re: Boats as Tough as S&S 34 ?

I guess I would still go for the Bavaria (comfort and ride) with the left over cash I would then have the standing rigging/mast taken up a notch on sizes for peace of mind.

Incidentally, the yacht next to me in the marina, is a steel Adams 42 centre cockpit that was built for the owners to sail to Antartica. The workmanship is simply brilliant, after it was completed they decided not to go and placed it on the market. "Rob" the guy next to me managed to purchase it for $249,000 a bargain, I would hate to think of what it cost to build and fit out.

So, the bargains are out there.

Cheers

Ken
