I think most of us would prefer to take such a
repair to a sail loft. I had a clew block chafe through the webbing a couple months ago, and got it fixed for $200. However, mid-ocean there's no way to farm the
work out. And a repair like that can't be done with sticky tape. So you'll either have to be carrying spares of every working sail or be able to do the repair yourself.
How many people carry two mains when they
