Boat Movers

I received quotes from a couple of companies to move a 40ft monohull approximately 27 miles in Florida by truck. One company quoted $7k and another $10k. Previously, I read that I should expect to pay between $60 to $75 per mile. Anyone know of a reasonable mover based in the Jacksonville area?

Re: Boat Movers

You can try Rick Bracanovich at The Boat Exchange.
He's based in Columbia, SC but makes frequent trips to FL.
He was fantastic in moving my Beneteau 41 from Charleston to Chicago.

Re: Boat Movers

You’re not going to get those per mile rates for such a short trip. Those figures you provide are what it “typically” works out to be over a long haul. They have to recoup the cost to get the driver and truck over to your pickup location, then back from the drop off point, the cost of permitting (if applicable), etc.

You can get lower rates if your trip aligns with an empty leg that’s already scheduled for a truck.

Yes, this is a very good point. You'll need to find someone that is empty anyways and can subsidize their return trip with your boat. But a big part of the cost is the loading and unloading, which is the same whether you're going 27 miles or 2700 miles.
