Re: Boat is heeling in marina - owner says its ok.

Could be any number of things. My Morgan had the engine replaced. Original was designed for 4 cyl perkins. They replaced with 6 cyl perkins. My out island 72 ketch the shaft is slightly port of centerline as is the engine mount. So with full fuel tanks it lists to port slightly, maybe 1-2 degrees.

See picture attached.

The Owner says it is not in balance because of the empty watertank.
It sounds logical to me, however I have never noticed such boat behavior.
Can anyone confirm that this in normal? Please!
Did you measure the bottom paint/waterline and make sure it was applied correctly and true on both sides of the hull?? What did a level tell you when in the water?

There seems to be a large list of sailors that are poking fun of your inquiry.
As many have said, many, if not most lighter displacement monohulls have natural lists as built. Empty vs full and where you are able to place things aboard your boat will affect her attitude. If you moved an 80 lb dinghy from one side to the other and place it at the same distance from the centerline, its the same as if you took it home and put 160 lbs of something else where you once planned to move the dinghy. Consider yourself lucky because God made water self-leveling and you don't need photographs to prove it. If the wind was continuously blowing at 12 knots on your port beam at your slip that would cause your boat to heel in her slip otherwise your boat was listing to starboard for quite some time and you can figure out what it takes to do that once you are floating again. Had she left her slip a little more often maybe it would have taken you a lot longer to notice she had a list.

A lot of the Bertrams came with a tube on one side that was storage for an extra propeller shaft. Old hands can look at those Bertrtams and tell if there is a prop shaft in the spare compartment, just by the list, or lack of one!
