Boat Insurance

Hi all,

Last month I purchased a 73 Morgan OI 41'. I'm heading down to the boat next week to do some electrical work and move the boat farther south around Ft Myers to a mooring.

I have started looking around for insurance and wanted to see if anyone has recommendations. The Progressive site only insures to 35' and my local State Farm Rep only insures instate boats.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Paul

Re: Boat Insurance

We have had insurance with Boat US in the past and currently through the ACE Insurance group, now Chubb.

https://www2.chubb.com/us-en/individ...atercraft.aspx

You can search for an agent via zip code.

Re: Boat Insurance

BoatUS wanted $1500 for my '89 Catalina 30 ($20,000) in Gulfport, Mississippi but I got it for half that at State Farm in Gulfport and I live in Louisiana. You don't need to get it from your home state.

I only pay $1200 for my $150,000 house...

Great, thank you, I'll look into it.

That's great to know, thanks. After my local state farm rep couldn't insure it, I thought I'd check with forum to see if there are better options. Thank you.

Re: Boat Insurance

I just bought a 43ft, 1976, John Martin Shipyard England C&C racer (aluminum monohull) sailboat. BOATUS will insure it for $1500. They will require an out of water survey.

Re: Boat Insurance

Boat US is who I ultimately selected... 37' was $450 annually... half the Hagerty quote of $950.

Interesting.

Cruising grounds? Hurricane box? Survey needed?

BoatUS has always quoted me twice what I get elsewhere with a more limited cruising area.

So I'm in the PNW (Seattle) area. Who did you use?

Well being in the PNW explains a lot.

Currently a Jackline policy from IMIS. Cruising grounds are Texas to Maine with the Bahamas and Caribbean for a few more dollars.

Re: Boat Insurance

Give the Gowrie Group a call I have always had very good service from them. And very competitive rates.
