No I paid 10 a foot to haul out that's only 100 more then I would have paid. I'm not cheap I was willing to pay 200 but not 400 plus.
Yes water and lunch and gas money was nice of me .I work as a plumber and never get offered drinks or tips.

Kinda shocked when I hear about cleaning hulls taking hours to do. I can do mine in a couple of hours at most taking it slow and easy and sometimes stopping for a drink of water or what ever.

I have a Seawind catamaran that is just under 36 feet that draws three feet five inches at most. The times I have paid a diver to do the bottom it took about 30-40 minutes. Last time I had it done by my semi regular diver he brought along a helper. It took his helper over 20 minutes to do one hull and the regular diver not quite half that to do the other.

I have talked to other catamaran owners who have similar experiences. Keep in mind catamarans like mind frequently sail in the double digit range which helps keep the hull clean. Multihulls in general are also probably more sensitive to growth on the hull so many owners are in the habit of having their hulls cleaned on a regular basis.

You're right, it typically doesn't take an experienced hull cleaner hours to do most boats. I usually figure about a minute a foot. Extremely foul hulls and running gear will add time to that, but even in the worst cases, I have rarely spent more than an hour and half to two hours cleaning a boat. I once (with a helper) cleaned a 30' X 60' fiberglass barge whose 10-year-old unpainted bottom was entirely covered in an 12" deep blanket of mussels. That took about three hours.

But sometimes you look at a really nasty bottom and say to yourself, "What is that worth to me to get in and clean?" The answer does not always come out to be what some boat owners consider a reasonable fee.

I don't mean to be picky guys, but as a retired marine biologist, I feel the need to tell you that the critters inhabiting the bottoms of your boat are not brine shrimp. Brine shrimp don't live in the ocean, but only in inland salt water lakes like the Great Salt lake in Utah. The animals on Fstbttms' dry suit are amphipods. They fall into two general groups, caprellid amphipods which are commonly called skeleton shrimp, and gammaridean amphipods, which when found in beach drift are often called beach fleas or sand hoppers. The caprellid amphipods look like something somebody made up or a scifi movie. They have two large antennae and arms with hooked claws that the hold out to the side. They have long thin body segments hence the common name. They tend to stand upright on their hind legs. The gammaridean amphipods have very short body segments and are laterally compressed and tend to crawl around on their bellies. There are probably a few isopods in there as well. In any case sorry for the biology lesson.

Well, based on that pic, I have to admit $400 is a bit outrageous. Looks like a garden variety scrape 'n scrub to me. I probably would've quoted you $5/foot, personally. But again, prices vary. Maybe the going rate is more in Sarasota.
