MarkSF - loved your post. We had a checklist but when we saw our Tayana with all her beautiful teak the checklist was forgotten. Fortunately with all that beautiful teak there was a boat that was well cared for and cruising ready just some tweaking to make her our own

You are looking at a wrong kind of shop. Try dog breeders instead. What you are looking for is golden retriever brand, age 0 to ~10 months. Another kind of chick magnet is sold in guitar shops - not quite as effective, steep learning curve, but will work for many years.

Re: Boat buying checklist

From reading a lot of posts here, it seems to be:

1. On the approved bluewater boat list: check
2. Not considered a "coastal cruiser" (even if in better condition than 1): check

This applies no matter what the actual use of the boat is, because we all want the perceived ability to cross oceans, even if that costs us the ability to sail on the weekends.

It would be interesting to take a poll on the actual use of a boat (say, last year) vs the planned use (next year). Are people purchasing the correct boats? I see an awful lot of unused boats when I walk around marinas...

Re: Boat buying checklist

There is no better proven chick magnet than this:

Chicks grow up to be Chickens, so better not to attract them IMO.

If you trade the chick magnet for a boat, you might attract something better.
