One thing for sure, you'll need some practical mechanical and electrical knowledge. With what you're saying you'll need there'll be a fair amount of systems and maintenance required. Think of taking an off the grid house (self powered and independant) then keeping it in an acid bath while stressing it's structure to its limits on a regular basis. That's a cruising boat.

I have found in life that a fixed viewpoint for every situation does not work.

Years ago in my 20s a friend of mine inherited a very large boat. Everyone was telling him to sell and get something he could learn on and manage himself. We were in our 20s then.

I asked Pete what HE wanted. After thinking, he said that as it was his fathers and there were many memories and attachments to the boat, he wanted to keep it. His boating experience was minimal. We sat on the deck drinking coffee and thinking.

I said to him: "well, then there is no other boat no other size and no other way to do this... you have to start and learn with this boat."

A few of us gave up our weekend fishing trips for a while and went out with him and taught him what we knew.. soon he was proficient, then he was amazing, then he went on to take professional courses and ended up being a charter boat owner somewhere. (We have lost touch).

Bottom line is that if you have a big boat, you will handle it. YOu have no choice. If you set your goals and work towards them then it will happen.
